Logitech z5300 speakers will not produce sound

I've got a strange issue i'm hoping is a simple fix and not hardware malfunction. I've got a set of logitech z5300 5.1 speakers that used to work great. About a year ago I boxed them up and moved to a new house, where they have sat in storage until last night. I unboxed it all, got it all hooked up, hoping to finally have some nice 5.1 sound again (been using headphones), but no matter what I tried, i got nothing from them.

I'm hooking into a Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS soundcard. I'm pretty sure the soundcard is fine, because i can plug my headphones and mic into it and i get sound just fine. The really strange part to me is the fact that i can plug my headphones into the z5300's controller and get sound and even adjust the volume with it. So to me that eliminates the wires connecting the z5300 and the soundcard as a possible issue.

I've tried changing speakers around, even setting the z5300 to 2.1 sound mode and trying all 5 speakers in the front speaker connection. No sound from any of them. I completely uninstalled the creative drivers, used driver cleaner for extra good measure, reinstalled the latest drivers. Same thing, no improvement.

I've doubled checked all the connections, even tried swapping plugs around just hoping maybe something was crisscrossed somewhere, still no dice.

Is something in the z5300 amp/receiver/sub box broken? Surely not all 5 speakers are broken. They've been sitting in a box at room temp for a year, with no possibility of being damaged. Same with the cables/wiring.

Anyone have any ideas?

could be just the volume knob is busted or something like that. if you have the know how, take it apart and look at it. things like corrosion can cause problems like that.

i'll take a wild guess and say whatever controls the volume to the speakers is damaged in some way.

If i plug my headphones into the volume controller (that controls the z5300) it works fine and i can adjust the volume with it as well. So that piece seems to be working fine.

i dont understand. where does headphones plug into the speakers. looking at the pictures, all i see is the subwoofer + amp and speakers. and what is the controller that is between the sound card and the speakers? the website doesnt give much information on this product.

it could be anything really, but i suspect its due to corrosion somewhere inside, possibly damaged transistors, and depending on how the volume is controlled.

sorry i cant be of much help. maybe if you put a diagram of how its all connected together?

just an update.. I cracked the thing open last night just to visually inspect all the wiring and what not... all wires are hotglued to their corresponding connectors and everything feels tight (no loose wires), nothing visually evident of a problem. Fuse looks fine as well, but I'm going to try replacing it just in case. I'm also going to try a composite-to-3.5mm (female) adapter so i can try using my headphones to test each speaker port.

Can anyone thing of anything else to try?

borrow a pair of speakers to confirm that its a speaker problem.
check all controls make sure nothings muted.
try them with a live cd and see if they produce sound. if they do its a windows problem.

did anyone ever figure this out? i have the z5300 it was working perfect, not playing it too loud at all, its not producing sound sometimes, you can wait a few hours and it will work like a champ, turn it off go shopping or a movie come back, no sound, i dont have it hooked to a pc im using it with a iphone into aux port, sometimes i hook it into my direct tv box with the adapter that takes all three connections and makes them into red white stereo , like i said been doing this for 2 years perfect, so im not sure whats up, tried new fuse, new cables , different audio sources etc... help please !!
