logitech z-680 question

How many inputs do the z-680s actually have, and what are they? I've read that you can have four devices hooked up at once. My friend is looking at speakers for his TV. The inputs would be (1) optically from the DVD player, (2) stereo (RCA) from the VHS player, and (3) 1/4" headphone jack from the music deck (I have a 1/8" minijack adapter if the z-680s only have a minijack). I'm trying to figure out if he can get away without having to get a receiver.

the 3 minijacks I would assume go into a 5.1 sound card. I have the z-640s, which only have 3 minijack plugs. They included an RCA stereo adapter to plug into the VHS player. It works fine, you just have to press the "Matrix" button on the center to mix the missing plug. The article I'm reading about the z-680s now says that it will automatically switch over, it just takes like 5 seconds. Nice...
