I aquired the Logitech Z-680 system today. I am going to be using this as a home theater speaker system in my living room. What I like about this is that it eliminates the need for a receiver. With my DirecTV HD going optical, my dvd player going digital coax, im all set!

I have read several reviews and they all say this system kicks ass. My quesiton is this. The speaker wire that the guy through in has to be the smallest speaker wire I have ever seen, seemed like 25 gauge, if they even make that.

I hooked it up to test it with this wire and had to turn the volume up 3/4 of the way to really hear anything. Is this because of the cheap skinny speaker wire? Will is be louder and sound better once I get the good speaker wire? I am going to get better wire tomorrow as all I had time to do today was mount the speakers on the walls with the monster speaker mounts.

Do you guys recommend this as a home theater speaker system?

Have you had any problems with it?

Any pointers?

Also, what is Logitech's warranty service on such a high priced item?

I doubt you will see much change in volume due to a change in speaker wire. The wire that comes with the set is typically 20 AWG or so. If you are going to change the wire, please don't spend much on it.

In a living room? No.

Have you had any problems with it?

Don't own one but the people I know that have had it have had no problems

Also, what is Logitech's warranty service on such a high priced item?

I don't know but they don't make those anymore. They are most likely already out of warranty.

Your reasoning on the "NO" for a living room?

Computer speakers are near-field designs. They are meant to be used within a close distance of a user in a fairly small environment. Once you expand the environment to the size of a living room, the speakers system will suffer sound quality wise.

They'll work, and if they sound fine to you, then enjoy them :)

They aren't bad, but if you've heard better, there's no going back.

And yeah, those are a bit outdated, would be surprised if there was any warranty left on them.

When you mean loud, so you mean it hits hard or is just loud?

the sub on the z560 is a beast. its loud and it hits hard.

relatively speaking, of course, but it puts the Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 sub to shame.

I have the sub on th bottom shelf of a wooden bookcase, which is behind a couch, and I have it wrapped in a comforter. I have it on the lowest setting possible on the "receiver" it still packs a punch.

At one point, i had two z560 setups hooked up at the same time, just to be obnoxious.

i succeeded. :D

So if I determined that something was wrong with my system, how could I warranty it?

call logitech? if it's still covered (not terribly likely).

Would they not just send me a new set?

Do you guys know any retail stores that are still selling these? Fry's, BestBuy, Circuit City, etc?

Logitech quit making them a while ago, so... no. I can't name any actual retailers that will have them.

I don't know what Logitech would do for you. It depends on what's actually wrong, and what you're covered for. That's why you call them and find out.

In my dorm room I used to blast this

http://dagobah.biz/flash/blackdudefalling.swf

I lived in the corner room of the top floor. I figured that about 36 other rooms could hear it when I played it.
