Hello everybody, recently I replaced my old 2.1 sound card to Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2. So I would like to get a set of new speakers as well.

My budget is limited (100+-) so there are not much choice for me. I read some reviews and also forums, some say Z-640 is a good speaker and some say not. My old speaker is Altec lansing Acs45.1 which I bought it 5 years ago and felt very proud at that time with it, but I think now is different. I didn't survey for speaker system from that time until 1 week ago.

Can anyone give me some recommendation?

Thank you!!!

$40 was the most I ever spent on a set of speakers, but out of that small investment, I rather like them. However, the bass is very powerful on these things. I have to use the equalizer with my nForce2 to tame the bass down so that it isn't audible throughout the entire house.
Haven't ever heard the Z-5300's, so I can't comment on them one way or another.

amazon had the z-640s for > $40 shipped the other day. definately worth the investment. I have two sets at my house. good for TV and computer. are they super high end end-all be-all speakers? no. are they awesome? I like to think so. they're much better than what I had before, which was a basic 2 speaker set, and also just regular tv audio. I like them, and if you're on a budget, they're well worth the investment.

Do you own Z-5300? Can Z-5300 use to connect to my dvd player with Coaxial out/digital out and produce 5.1 sound?

It works in 5.1 on my computer. I think it's somewhat of a different story on the dvd player. The z-640s come with a stereo AV adapter (red and white RCA plugs). However, you have to press the Matrix button on the front, which mixes the left and right front channels into the center channel. I don't know if it's true 5.1 or not, since it plugs into the stereo jacks. This is an analog-only system. It sounds way better than TV audio at any rate.

See my post in hot deals for some more info.
