Logitech Z-560 Speakers Question!

Hi all,
I just bought a Logitech Z-560. Wow, my neighbors has been complaining for several times :) . Anyway, i got a problem with it. It has four speakers, but only 2 works (front left and front right). The other two (left back and right back) does not make any sound if i don't turn on the fade knob. If i turn on that knob, it makes a very small sound (1/100 of the front speakers). So, it seems that only the front speakers do the job. Is the system designed that way or something wrong with it? I did check the back speakers, nothing goes wrong with the speakers. Any idea how to fix it?

Thanks all,
Munwacher

PS: The fade knob that i am talking about is on the little control box that comes with the system.

Well, the fade knob does control how much of the sound goes to the rear speakers (vs front speakers only). Are your inputs for the rear speakers plugged into your soundcard? Does your soundcard support 4 speaker output? That's what you should be checking first.

What sort of soundcard do you have?

Also, check to see if you have the proper software installed... for example, if you have something along the lines of a sound blaster live! card then you need to have AudioHQ installed.. plus you need to set the speaker settings to "Quadraphonic Speakers"

Hi Lore,
I am having a built-in 6 channel audio sound card on my Asus P4S533. How do i finf out whether it supports 2 speakers or 4 speakers? The cable from the subwoofer has a green cable and a black cable. However, there're only three holes in my sound card (line in, line out, and microphone).
Thanks,
Munwacher

Hmm, if those are the only inputs you have, I'm not sure how you'd connect the Z-560 to it properly. You see, your green miniplug from the Z-560 is the stereo (front left and right) speaker line. You would plug this into the "line in" minijack from your on-board sound card.

At least you can verify that your speakers aren't dead by disconnecting the green miniplug and only connecting the black miniplug from the Z-560s into the on-board sound card's "line-in" minijack. Is the sound from the rear more apparent now? If so, that must mean your speakers are just fine.

I looked through the manual for your motherboard and it says the connectors change functions when using 6-speaker mode. It says to refer to chapter 5, but I couldn't find anything about it in chapter 5. I noticed that there is also an optional SPDIF card you can buy. Maybe it just doesn't support analog 4-speaker mode (?)

Have you tried, just to make sure the back speakers work, turning on M3D and setting the fade all the way to the back... If the speakers are working right, you should her sound from your back speakers as well as front. If not, i would say you have something wrong with your subwoofer/amp. If it does work, you have them hooked up improperly to your mobo.

Good luck!

Audio plug ins for the Asus P4S533 mb (Top,middle, bottom):

Green - Line out/Front Speaker out (your Z560 green plug goes here)
Blue - Rear Speaker out (your Z560 black plug goes here)
Pink - Center/Subwoofer Speaker out (there is no plug from the Z560 that goes here)

If you notice on your desktop toolbar, there should be a C-Media Mixer icon. Left click bring up C-Media Mixer. Look at the lower left you will see an Advanced icon (mini socket and hammer icon), left click brings up advanced functions. Goto speakers tab, choose 4 speakers.

Viola, your Z560's should work. :D

Also, there is a button on your Z560 control pod labled "M3D". If you push it on, your Z560's will use a proprietary surround sound for 3d gaming.

Have fun :)

Thanks all guys,
It works now, however, the front speakers still seem to dominate those from the back. Anyway, thanks for all your help. Tates, BlinderBomber,fr, masterhoss,ludacris66, lore!
Have a good day!

the back speakers aren't really apparent unless you do some sort of audio channel test where it fades from speaker to speaker or play EAX and listen for back sounds.

Hi Tates and friends,
With the Z-560 speakers, will the back speakers work if we don't allow any fade (from the control pannel). In my speakers, when i turn fade all the way down, i hear no sound from the back speakers.

When i turn on fade all the way up, the back speakers now does work but much smaller sound than those in front. I read something on the motherboard manual, it says something about Audio Input Line In Header (LINE_IN): "This connector supports audio input on left and right stereo audio channels. This motherboard ships with Jumpers caps over pin1-2 and 4-5. Remove them only when making audio input connections."

I am plugging the black cable in Line-In of the mobo, do i have to remove these jumpers?
Thanks for your help,
Munwacher

Sounds like your rear channel output on your mobo is not outputting any audio. Try removing the jumper and see if that helps. It also seems to me that your speakers are working properly (you can test this by taking the black plug and putting it into where you currently have the green plug).

Make sure your sound card drivers also specify that you're doing 4 channel output so it knows to use one of those line-in plugs as an output plug.

hi Lore,
It is strange that when i remove the green cable out of the green hole (the black cable now is still hooked up to the mobo), i don't hear anything. When i plug the black cable in the green hole, no sound!
I did try to take out the jumpers, but i didn't help.
I appreciate your help!
