Hey guys,

I'm just curious. A friend of mine really wants to upgrade his speaker system for his computer. Only problem is, it is an HP Pavilion laptop.

Now in my experience, I've always had a desktop, so I just know that you need to get a sound card that supports a 5.1 speaker setup. With a laptop, I'm not quite sure what he needs to do. I noticed Creative makes an expansion port card that plugs into your laptop and allows you to plug in 5.1 speaker setups, but I'm not sure if they actually do that or not.

So in conclusion, what would my friend need to do so that he is able to use a Logitech Z-560 Speaker system on his laptop and be able to use the system to the max?

Thanks for you help in advance!

To get the absolute most out of it, he'd need to get a USB soundcard or a card like an Audigy2 zs notebook that fits in an expansion slot.

An extremely cheaper option would be
1. Use the headphone out / line-out and use the 4.1 system as a 2.1 system and don't hook up the rears
2. Use the headphone out/ line-out and enable "M3D" on the Logitech Control pod which will give you sound out of all the speakers from just stereo input
3. Get a splitter cable and send the stereo signal to the front and rear speakers. This wont give him surround sound in games, but will get a good signal to each speaker.
