Logitech z-5500 with onboard audio

My ECS 945GCT/1333 has IDT 92HD202 audio chip with 6 channels. I am buying the z-5500. I could get a sound card, but maybe later.

My question is, is the z-5500 completely worthless on onboard audio, or are the onboard audio chips usually good enough so that the z-5500 sounds decent?

What are you going to be listening to? How will you be hooking them up? (6 channel connectors or digital coax?)
In most cases these days, onboard is fine for most people.
Unless you're hooked up to a good quality system (amp & monitors) most wouldn't be able to tell the difference in blind tests.
Try them out with your onboard, and if you're not happy get a soundcard.

If you're hooking them up via SPDIF, your audio chipset probably won't matter much at all, past whether you have DD-Live or not.

I'll just be using my computer like most people would: watch movies occasionally, listen to different types of music occasionally, play a few Unreal games occasionally. The use is very mixed, so it's not just one particular specialty I'm aiming at. Thx.

Get them and don't look back. They are well worth the money, even with *just* onboard sound.

I agree.. If you have 6 or 5.1 for onboard it will still be great. I have them hooked up to my onboard right now and it sounds great.
