Logitech Z-5500 settings

I'm just wondering what settings you guys have on the control pod under "level." My surround is currently maxed out, previously I had it in the middle and i found that the rear speakers were not very loud, is this normal? Also, my center is a bit boosted and my sub is maxed out.

What sound card are you using? There should be software that came with your card in which you can control the output level to each speaker.

Also, when I run the Creative calibration test, it tells me that some of my speakers arent connected properly after it does the polarity test. However, i double checked and the connections are all fine.

I haven't had a creative card that could test polarity, but just checking - do you know what you're looking for to check the polarity?

For the levels, the surround volume will depend on how far away you are from them and then personal preference. For movies for example you don't want them to drown out the front speakers.

Sub maxed out is probably way too high, but again, whatever you like.

It's probably checking to see if your speakers are in phase so if you have the speakers wire version of the z-5500s and not the RCA-type connection, that could be messed up.

You want to have the same polarity output on the sub matching the polarity of each speaker. I'm not sure how things are color coded, but it's usually red and black for the connections. Make sure each red output from the sub is connected to the corresponding red input on each speaker so they're all in phase. Usually speaker wire will have markings on one of the wires so you'll be able to use that to tell which wire is connected to which.

If they have markings, make sure the marked side is joining the red connections for each speaker. (more importantly is that you are consistent, but marked for red is a good way to go)

One last question...my system is connected through analog for now; is it normal that when I use Pro Logic II, the two rear speakers arent as loud or full as opposed to when I use Stereo x 2 or 6 channel? I'm thinking thats how pro logic II works, that most of the sound comes from the front speakers, and the rear ones are there more for "support"to fill in. I still hear them, but it is clear most of the sound comes from the front. I'm all new to this, so thanks for all your help guys.
