Ok got these speakers a few months ago and I've noticed sometimes they make what can only be described as a popping sound sometimes. It happens when they are turned on and it happens when they are idle or in-use watching movies or whatever.

Anything i can do about this? its not a big issue but I'd like to stop it if i can.

Does it happen if you disconnect the audio cable(s) from your sound card? If not, it's probably a problem with the sound card. If you still get the popping when not connected to the sound card, then it's likely a power or other connection issue inside the speakers themselves.

yeah it happens through optical (my standalone dvd player), analogue (my pc) and coax (was using for my pc briefly) so i don't think its my sound card.

Very common problem with the Z-5500 (and also the X-530). It has taken me 6 months before Logitech makes recognizable the problem.

See this link

On the Dutch forum from tweakers.net I have started a topic about the issue. On this moment we are working with Logitech on a solution for the Z-5500.

There are some English posts on the forum, but most is Dutch. This is a letter from the Vice President Audio, directed to me.

Are you using an Intel SoundMax product?

If so, then Intel refers to this as "JACK SENSING".

What OS?

I think I'm using a similar set up with my laptop, except that it's a PCMCIA card.

I'm also having similar problems.

I'll take a look at this post later when I get access to my speakers (they are in another country ;))
