first i had my heart set on the x-530s, but for only $50 more why not right? besides sound quality, what are the advantages and features of the z-5300s? are they wall mountable like the x-530s? are they shielded (i have a crt)?

They'll get louder
They are wall mountable
It has a wired remote vs controls on the front right speaker
Matrix mode for 5.1 simulated from stereo and other non-5.1 sources

I'm not sure on the magnetic shielding.

They're louder, they have a better control pod... wall mountable, shielded, and has a bigger subwoofer.

Cons are... bass is loud, but not quality, subwoofer is a bit large.

so all in all just like the x-530s, they're worth the price?

Matrix mode for 5.1 simulated from stereo and other non-5.1 sources ...what?

If you use speakers without some sort of matrix, and you play a 2-channel source (music, old movies, etc), only the front two speakers will play sounds. Matrix clones that sounds so you'll hear something out of all speakers.

You can always add a soundcard later...

A2 zs for $42 after rebate at zzf is what I would get for a gaming card right now if you are going to buy one.

i'll just go with the x-530s...i don't want to spend more money, only knowing i have to spend MORE to reach it's full potential.

oh yea, does the "THX certified" mean anything special for computer speakers? (other than sounding good)

I would go for the z-5300's. They are amazing speakers for the price. My only complaint is that the sub is too "boomy" and not tight enough. But just shuv a pair of old socks or something in the sub and it muffles the bass just enough. But make sure not to plug the sub and ruin it.

i ordered the x-530s today 🙂 i really don't have a place to put that giant sub from the z-5300...unless i put it on my desk.

OH MY GOD!
I cant believe I let this one slip by.

I love my 5300's. They sound awesome. There is a reason they got the THX cert. The sound is loud and clean on all levels, Bass, Mid and Treble. Dont know if they are shielded or not, but I can move mine right next to my CRT and not see any distortion. The satellites are heavy and sturdy, they provide good Mids and highs in all my games and music.

The Sub is boomy, but you dont need to stuff junk in the ports. Just use the Windows Volume settings to turn down the Bass. Keep it well below half-way on the slider. Let the subwoofer do its job.
On the speaker control pod I leave the sub setting down really low and it still sounds great.

Also, you cant beat the price at Newegg right now. Shop around. You can NOT find a THX, 5.1, 280 watt system for anywhere near 134 dollars.

EDIT: See, no interferance. The blue effect is from my camera, not the speakers.

EDIT 2: Nevermind, this pic is better. God bless indoor flashes!

Oh ya, I currently have it hooked up to my modded xbox and use them as home theater speakers (with rca cable extenders of course). That is why I have limited control over the bass. But when I had them hooked up to my computer it wasn't bad at all and the sound blew me away. Which is why they are sitting in my basement now 🙂
