CrowDog, for the $$ you won't find a better 2.1 setup than the Logitech Z-340's. If you can find a pair of the Boston Acoustics BA-790's give them a listen also. And, if $$ is a huge issue, you won't do better than the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's (in a 2.1 environment). I have all three speaker systems. The Z-340's went back in the box, to go off to college next fall w/ my older daughter. The BA-790's are on my younger daughter's machine, and are still some of the purest computer speakers I've heard. The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's are on my main machine, and they'll stay there <g>.
Some observations - musically, the Z-340's have a strong bass component, maybe too strong. My daughter's previous machine (just built her a new one) had a Philips Harmonic Edge sound card in it, w/ no bass/treble controls. I simply couldn't dial down the subwoofer control enough to get the boominess out of the bass. The BA-790's still are one of the flatest, most neutral sounding computer speaker setups I've heard. They simply sound good. In Winamp I found I had to boost the higher frequencies more than other systems. The Klipsch speakers are simply awesome. Maybe a bit bright for some people. I have the Winamp graphic equalizer set flatter than ever before. I have yet to find the top end of these speakers, volume wise, as they simply get too loud. You haven't experienced computer speakers (and I'm not comparing this to an audio setup run through a sound card, which is a whole different story) until you hear the THX theme wav on the PM 2.1's.
