Yep, they're a good deal when you can find them for under $50. I've recommended them to people on occation who are looking to upgrade their crappy dell default speakers.

Too bad they stopped making the z-340 set, I was able to get 4 sets for $25 each once and had no problem finding good homes for them at that price.

These look cooler though 🙂

I got these for $25 AR in Dec.... amazing for the price paid compared to what you get at a local store for $25-35

They're nice & heavy speakers. The last rebate from amazon with these took less then two months. The one complaint I have is that the bass is too heavy, even at the lowest settings. Luckily, nvidia offers a nice equilizer utiliy, with a bunch of extra features, that helped me lower the boom to comfortable levels. 🙂

It's wood grain laminate on them. Newegg has some larger pictures

edit: oh, and yes, they're good. I think they're hard to beat in the under $50 range.

Is it possible to turn the subwoofer off on these speakers? If so, is the sound still respectable?

Well, the satellite speakers get their power from the amp in the sub (the power cord is attached to the sub) so the sub has to stay on.

As Coquito said, you can adjust the bass so it's lower and again, eq helps.

Yes, mostly at night. I'm concerned about excessive vibrations even when you lower the base to it's lowest settings.

With it down to the lowest and the volume not too loud, I don't think it would be too bad... and if it is, there's always headphones 🙂

Yeah, that little headphone jack fits perfectly on the side of my desk. Easy to adjust the volume & plug my phones in. 🙂
