Logitech X-530 Speakers--subwoofer too loud

I have the logitech X-530 5.1 Speakers, the subwoofer is set to lowest but there isn't an off switch, the walls are paper thin and it's way too loud during the night. I have tried unplugging the yellow-orange plug (stated as the center/subwoofer port) but it still doesn't work. Please help.

You could try toning down the lower frequencies in software, with an equalizer. The sub on that set probably handles about 150Hz down, and the stuff from 40-80Hz is what you should worry about most wrt disturbing your neighbors.

For my onboard sound, (Nvidia Soundstorm), there is a program called NVMixer which can be used to set the volume of my 5 speakers + subwoofer. I have the sub dialled down to 0 on my decoder and about 40% via. software.

i think i read somewhere that you can't physically lower the volume of the sub and that it has to be done through the computer.

Does your realtek control program have an equalizer? It would look like a bunch or vertical bars with sliders. Numbers under the bars would correspond to different frequencies.

If you don't have one, you can adjust the equalizer in some programs. Do you use winamp for music? If so, you can turn the leftmost bar in the equalizer settings all the way down. That should get rid of most of the bass.

As others have said, you'll have to do it through software equalizers/speaker level control programs (like NVMixer in the case of SoundStorm onboard sound). The knob on the back of the sub only lets you reduce it from "obnoxiously loud" at the top to "not so loud, but still not off" at the bottom :p

Edit: And the reason that it didn't work when you disconnected the center/sub jack from the computer is that that only affects 5.1 sources - if you're just playing a stereo or even 4-channel source (or any source with bass really...), the speakers will automatically send the bass from that signal to the sub, even though nothing is coming through the center/sub jack at the time.

well, here's a screenshot of the sound manager Text, i've tried setting the one farthest left all the way down (and clicked the on button) but it's still pretty loud, any way to make it near silent, people complaining at night because of the thin walls....

Try turning down the first two on the Asus mixer. Chances are the crossover frequency is quite high (around 200Hz or so) since the satellite speakers are so small. This would make the subwoofer play quite a bit. If that doesn't work, try playing with the other slider just to check that the equalizer is actually working. If it doesn't, just use the one in WinAmp.

Also, it looks like you need to either change your video settings or install new drivers.

Alternatively to turning the bass down, you can turn everything else up and then turn the overall volume down.

100hz as the lowest bass adjustment is still pretty high. The problem frequencies are probably around 40hz or so.

Thanks for trying to help....

The sliders that you took a picture of... the numbers under the sliders (100,200,400, etc) are the frequency ranges you're changing. Sliding them down will reduce the volume for that range. The most you can reduce it is -12dB lower than the original frequency.

Play around with the bars. You should be able to figure out what they do. If you raise one of the selectors, you're increasing the volume for that range.

Try this

Make sure that you turn the equalizers on also.

i appreciate the help, currently, using the settings yoyo said, it has helped a lot but it's still kinda noisy during the night (lol), any way to make it less noisy?

You can get a greater difference if you turn all the other sliders up (which will make the other frequencies louder) and then turn the volume on the speakers down. This will give a greater overall difference between the bass and the rest of the volume.
This might introduce some distortion though.

My X-530 is connected to my Xbox, so I can't use any software to turn the woofer way down below it's lowest volume. Am I screwed?

It's too boomy for my stupid step-dad and my downstairs has no door to help muffle the sound, so I'll probably have to sell them and get a set that has more bass control.

Capacitor in series with dynamic driver = highpass crossover with 6 dB / octave roll off.

You could try to physically muffle the sub I guess.

Problem with that is the X-530 has no volume control for the headphones....what a great set a speakers. :disgust:
