Logitech X-230 or X-530???

I don't know if I should get Logitech X-230 (2.1) or X-530 (5.1)

I wouldn't be able to put the X-530's in a perfect circle, but I probably could improvise a bit. All pieces must be connected by cords right (speaker newbie).

I could get the X-230's for 15 bucks less, and there wouldn't be any problem as to where to place them.

I don't usually play sound at an extremely high volume, and I'm not too much of a sound enthusiast (I don't care THAT much). Which should I get?

edit: What do I need in order to connect them to an Xbox 360? Do I connect it to the console or my TV or either (if either, probably 360 cause my TV is an old SDTV)

If you could get the surround speakers on the 530s to the side of you, that would be good enough. If they would all be lined up in front of you, then you shouldn't bother and get the 230s.

All the speakers will need to be connected to the sub.

To connect the 360, you can just do that with an adapter. If your TV has an "Audio OUT" in back, you can connect the 360 sound through the TV and then route all the TV sound to the speakers (so you could have the computer speakers used for anything you're watching on the TV).

You could also go straight from the 360 to the speakers.
That would go something like this (pretend that's a 360 and not a PS2 ;))

If you don't want to have to keep changing where your speakers are connected and you leave your computer on, you could run to the Line-In on your soundcard instead of going straight to the speakers from the 360 or TV.

If you get the 530s, you will not get true surround sound from the 360 (but they would give you true surround from your computer). You can get just stereo from the methods above, or Logitech also has a game adapter (that may or may not come with the 530s). You will still not get true surround, but it will play the stereo signal off all the speakers.

If you wanted to get true surround, you'd need a set of speakers that has a digital input... and the good ones that have that tend to be a lot more expensive.

alright, thanks a lot man (although a lot of that I didn't understand, but that doesn't matter)
I'll get the X-230's. I'll probably getem on mWave... they have the game console adaptor in stock as well.
I have a 2 more questions though..
That adaptor connects directly to the 360 correct? (man Ima newb hehe)
If it doesn't, and it connects to the TV, will the age/quality of my TV affect the sound quality?

If you get the 230s, you don't need to get that Logitech adapter. That's only needed if you want to get a set of 5.1 speakers. You can get it and it will work, but you could potentially get a cheaper cable that would do the same job.

You can go either way on the 360 or the TV. If your TV is really crappy, you might want to avoid running through it, especially if it doesn't have "Audio OUT" in which case it wouldn't work at all.

If you get the 230s and you leave your computer on, then this cable should be all you need. You can plug the 360's RCA audio cables into the red/white end and then plug the other end into your computer's "Line-IN" (it's usually blue).

You'll then be able to keep your speakers plugged into your computer and not need to switch them back and forth to different sources physically. You can mute the line-in when you're not using it.

I don't plan on having the speakers for both PC and 360 though.. just for 360 (theyre in different places) That's what the cable you gave a link for is for correct?
I just need to know what I need to connect the speakers directly to the 360. Or does that all come in the box?
edit: nvm I get what you mean now. It'll run from 360 to PC to speakers. Naa, I'd rather just have 360 -> speakers. Everything I need for that is in the box?

Oh, most people getting a set of computer speakers for something like this are using it for both.

For just 230s and the Xbox, you just need a female 3.5mm to female RCA stereo (at cablesforless you'd need to get THIS + THIS. If you can find a cable somewhere that is female on both ends that would do the job.

The logitech Game adapter would also serve the same purpose.

I don't know if the 230s would come with an adapter that would do that for you.
