Logitech Wireless Mouse problem

I just bought this logitech wireless mouse (silver with dark blue trims) earlier this week. The mouse can work with either ps/2 or USB connection. I used the PS/2 as it is the recommended connection for desktop pc according to logitech's user manual. The mouse works great but it has this nagging connection problem. I must press the connect buttons (one on the RF receiver and another underneath the mouse) during each cold boot in order to establish the radio signal connection between the mouse and the receiver. Otherwise, the mouse will not function at all once the computer boots into Windows XP SP2. Having to press two more buttons during each cold boot is quite annoying.

I am just wondering is this normal for wirelss mouse or is it because I am using the PS/2 instead of the USB connection?

This is not normal, I don't experience this.. the problem is I'm not sure what the problem can be... Anyone else?

What condition is the mouse battery in?

Quite some time ago I saw a couple of posts where people with relatively new logitech rigs were having to replace the batteries that came with their unit. These were people who were experiencing problems when their equipment was relatively new, tore their hair out trying to isolate the problems they were having and just for heck of it changed the battery and Ala Kazam the problems went away.

Of course different times, different equipment, and who knows, but it might be worth a try.

I have enough odds and ends of stuff around the house that depend upon AA sized batteries, so I just gave up and bought a battery recharger and a handful of rechargeable batteries and always try to keep a couple of batteries charged up just in case. If the mouse battery gets run down, just pop in a fresh one and away you go.

The batteries I used came with the mouse. They are Duracell with exp. date of March 2011. I think they are good. I will give USB a try it might has to do PS/2 doesn't allow hot plugging like USB. Therefore, if the radio connection between the mouse and the receiver are not establish during boot up. The Windows XP will just treat the situation like there are no mouse present. The whole reason I bought this particular wireless mouse is that it also work with PS/2 connection. If it only function 100% with USB connection, then I will definitely return this thing and go with a better looking USB wireless mouse or just a conventional USB or PS/2 wired optical mouse.

It turns out the wireless mouse will only auto-reconnect when the receiver is hook up via the USB cable.
