Seriously considering Logitech's wireless keyboard & mouse... any potential problems I should be aware of? I'm pretty much aware of the pro's, but what are the con's?

My boss has this setup on her computer here at work. I think it's pretty nice for office use, (not sure of the model, but it is logitech) it is a ball mouse, keyboard. The mouse is kinda heavy with the battery, but other than that, it's nice not having the cords in the way.

Don't know the model no. but it's the cordless 'Freedom' optical wireless keyboard and mouse kit - as follows:

Keyboard: USB-PS/2 interface, silver and dark gray
Mouse: USB-PS/2 interface scrolling wheel, 2 buttons, silver and dark gray

BTW, does it go through batteries quickly?

A few people I know tried out the wireless keyboard/mouse combos from Logitech and found that the keyboard responsded to slowly for most FPS type games. Some people also say that the mice aren't accurate enough since you can't up their polling rate (PS/2) which defaults to the standard 90.

Security Issues

And I dont like the fact it takes up batteries. I really don't have any specific need for me typing to my computer elsewhere, other than on the desk. Thats my reason for not getting one.

The setup here has been in the office for about 8 months of everyday use and the batteries are still good.

I have Cordless Freedom iTouch. It has a traditional ball mouse. I've heard that the optical version consumes more battery. But it should be a very big problem though. My kb/mouse combo is very energy efficient. I barely change batteries. The range is not very good, but should be enough for most usage. The mouse is also pretty accurate. I play counter strike with it. I think it's even better than a corded optical mouse. Be sure to feel the keyboard before you buy it. The keys were pretty stiff on mine. I liked it though.

It's really nice not to have to route 2 cables across your desktop to the case! I've had the Logitech Freedom combo (w/optical mouse) for 5 months and I find that it works very well. Battery life is ok, but not great; it required replacement after 3 months!

I don't have the wireless keyboard, but I do have the Logitech Wireless Optical Mouse. My only complaint is swapping batteries, which I have to do at least once a week because of how I use it. I bought a couple sets of NiMH batteries, though, so I always keep one set charging while using the other. If I didn't have those, I would have spent hundreds of dollars on alkaline batteries by now. The only peeve I have about it is if the batteries get too low while I'm playing EQ, I get booted out of the game when the mouse connection dialog pops up in Windows. On the seldom occasion when I don't get booted, I have my Wacom Graphire tablet/mouse as a backup.

I can't understand your excessive battery drain when others are getting months out of theirs!

I had the logitech cordless mouseman optical, it worked great on everything, including games. I`d have to replace the batteries about every 5-6 weeks. I upgraded to the logitech MX700 now and love it.

i use three logitech cordless kbd/ms setups in the same room and never had cross-talk on any of them. the problem i have is that on one setup i use a kvm switch to toggle between three towers and for some reason my 4-button ergonomic defaults to a 3-button standard ps/2 and mouseware refuses to see it. :(

Actaeon beet me to the link. Any company with a good IT/security department (obviously not CurtCold's) will not allow wireless keyboards.

While I use the Logitech wireless combo on a home PC (not business), it does not affect a 2nd PC in another room of my house that's just 40' distance from my Logitech!
