I expected something different. Read a ton of posts and people talked alot about the smooth scrolling feature. I thought it would not only eliminate the ratchety effect of spinning the wheel but also provide the feature whereby (at least in vertical scrolling, not having tried the horizontal yet) the window would move up or down smoothly and not in herky jerky large increments. Is there a way to get it to do this? I really would like it to move smoooothly!

I seem to remember using a mouse that did this optionally years ago but don't see it in my box of old mice (all of which have balls!).

This is where the SetPoint software comes into play. If you can't get the software to work, you're probably outta luck.

The VX is manually switched. Look under the mouse for the switch. The desktop Revolution can be toggled from click to free by pushing down on the wheel or through an application or by the speed it is spun, etc.

I know about the manual switch, that's not the problem. It's just that when switched to smooth it still jerks. Yes, it feels smooth under the finger (no ratcheting effect in my sense of touch), but the scrolling as seen on my monitor is still done incrementally (i.e. it jerks in large increments).

I installed Setpoint 3.10 for Windows 2000 (the supplied version 3.01 only supports XP and Vista), and the vertical scroll is the slowest setting. Even setting it to maximum vertical scrolling speed has had no effect. It makes scrolling completely useless. A reboot hasn't helped.

Oh, oh. Looks like I got the Illogitech mouse! :Q Cursor acts weird a lot, too... like a dirty ball mouse. Ugh! Well, hopefully it will be OK on my laptop at least. I was hoping it would be my every day desktop mouse. Maybe if I install XP. Things might improve considerably if I reinstall Windows 2000, actually. I've been experiencing mucho increasing wackiness the last few weeks....

You have to set the lines per click lower. I believe the default is 3. Set it to 1 and it will be much smoother. There's no such thing is perfectly smooth scrolling though. You have to grab the bar for that.

I don't see a lines/click in the Setpoint settings. There's just a drag/drop horizontal bar setting with Slow at the extreme left and Fast at the extreme right.

You may have to download tweakui (the power toy program from microsoft) and set it there.

Thanks, I'll look into that in a day or two. Got my hands full now -- one of my HD's died this afternoon!

Oddly, now after about 3-4 more reboots I am using the mouse again and it's scrolling quickly. I did reboot at least twice before and it wasn't working. Only difference this time is that I'd disconnected the mouse and I just connected it and it works (put the USB receiver in). I hope the cursor is well behaved. It wasn't before, quite often.

I'm having a similar problem. I just got a VX revolution and when set to smooth scrolling on the bottom of the mouse, it doesn't smooth scroll at all. If I spin the wheel, it'll just go down the page in one increment and stop or it won't scroll at all.

The ONLY way that I can get it to continuously scroll is if I slightly press down on the wheel while I'm scrolling... but then that defeats the purpose of being able to flip the wheel and scroll forever. It's really starting to piss me the *^#* off :|:|

I'd stopped using it on my desktop. Too busy with other stuff to bother with it. The behavior is inconsistent. I just uninstalled Setpoint and will see if the behavior improves. Several people have suggested doing that. Have to reboot to find out...

Wheels are a gimmick. Enable scroll mode activated by a button then simply move the mouse. Optionally, just give a slight pull without counter-acting and have it scroll hands-free at your desir'd speed.

Different strokes for different folks - that's why there's trackballs and touchpads. ;)

I've found that with Logitech you are really degrading the experience if you do NOT install the included software. It's almost as bad as buying a graphics card and using STANDARD VGA hehehe.

I didn't install SetPoint. I don't care for SetPoint, it's too hard to get what I want from it. Stock XP drivers ftw :D

Also is it just me or is the Zoom slider a piece of crap?
