I bought this online 6 years ago, it used to work just fine. This thing uses a little USB receiver (i.e. it's cordless). These days for some reason the cursor movement is not accurate. It's as though the darn mouse has been drinking. The movement is not consistent with hand movement. Surface, the computer I use it with, doesn't matter. I'm using Windows PCs. Is it possible there's something I can do to revive the mouse?

Tried cleaning the sensor, possibly with alcohol?

Just tried that, I moved the mouse to this computer. No improvement after swirling a q-tip doused with 70% rubbing alcohol in the hole that has the sensor(s). There appear to be two of them, glass-like orbs, one bigger than the other in that recess. The cursor responds and moves when I move the mouse on a mouse pad or table surface, it just doesn't do it in a manner consistent with my hand movements, such as I get with my Logitech m325 mice. Those are smaller, have less features (just two buttons and a scroll wheel). :( I don't recall anything happening, but I have had the Logitech VX Revolution mouse for several years. I may have dropped it. The room I keep it in has a carpet. Dunno. It's really totally unusable as it is...

For instance, to get the cursor to move vertically, I have to make exaggerated movements. If I drag the mouse lower slowly, the cursor wiggles, but does not descend!!!

That definitely sounds like a misaligned or dirty sensor. Maybe take some canned air to it, see if that helps? It is unfortunately out of warranty so there's probably no point in calling Logitech.

Logitech actually has a fairly active forum with some helpful mods, you might ask around over there.

I'm assuming you've tried the obvious stuff like replacing the batteries etc? I've seen reception issues present like sensor problems before, try getting the mouse very close to the receiver and see if anything changes?

Yeah, new batteries, I've tried all kinds of stuff including having the mouse 4 inches from the sensor with nothing inbetween. I registered at Logitech Forums this morning and posted this:

subject: Logitech VX Revolution mouse cursor movement erratic

message: I've had this since 2007, used to work fine. Now, the cursor movement is not consistent with hand movements. For example, if I move the mouse straight down slowly, the cursor will wiggle but will not descend. It get the cursor to descend, I have to move the mouse faster. In general, and consistently, the mouse movements do not correspond with hand movements, very aggravating with a mouse. This mouse is not even close. The way it is working nowadays, it's utterly unusable.

I've tried:

1. New batteries

2. Attaching receiver to different USB ports

3. Different computers (PC's running Windows XP SP3)

4. Different surfaces (various mouse pads, table top surfaces)

5. Installing Setpoint software, adjusting it, uninstalling it.

6. Tried cleaning the sensor by dipping a fresh Q-Tip in 70% rubbing alcohol and rotating it in the recess that has the globular sensors

None of these things have helped.

My Logitech m325 mice work fine in similar use, so I know there's something wrong with the VX Revolution. The VX Revolution has a lot more features than the m325's, I'd like to be able to use them. What could be at issue here?

I forgot to mention in that post that I'd blown compressed gas into the sensor recess as well. The post is here: http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Mice-and-Pointing-Devices/Logitech-VX-Revolution-mouse-cursor-movement-erratic/td-p/1042419
