hi there, i am new to this forum so please bare with me....... i hope everyone had a good christmas :wine:

RIGHT....down to business,i recently got a logitech sphere webcam as one of my christmas presents from my family, i thought Great  all was going well when installing it.....i read the manual....installed the software and then restarted my computer to follow the wizard for installing the webcam....BUT....after all of this everytime i go to the camera settings to alter the picture or so on.....it crashes, thepicture gets stuck and i have to rebott my computer. I installed everything according to the manual so why is it not working??? all anti - virus software was off when installing it and so on. I am also unable to use the cam with msn messenger....i had problems with my last webcam when using msn messenger and it always crashed...

can anyone shed some light on this topic as it is a £100 present and my parents will kill me if they think i've broke it :(

thanks kayla :)

newest drivers are here (on the right)

also note:
The Sphere doesn't include any video conferencing software, and it won't work with iChat AV as it has a USB interface and iChat only works with FireWire cameras. Logitech recommends you use the free Yahoo Messenger software, which provides instant messaging and basic video conferencing software. This works reasonably well.

From Here

Some USB products require you to install the software/drivers BEFORE plugging in the product.

Read your instructions CAREFULLY & see if it says this.

You can also try, unplugging the cam, then uninstalling the software/drivers. Reboot. Reinstall the software/drivers. THEN plug the cam in & see what happens.

make sure that the drivers for your USB (not the webcam) are properly installed. even if they are, i recommend going online to find updated drivers for your motherboard's chipset/USB controller... i've had a bad power supply restart my computer when the devices connected to the USB ports drew too much power... i know it's not that relevant, but it might be something you might want to look at.

Also note:

another user had troubles with the base being plugged in ...

the instruction guide says that the webcam shouldnt be plugged in, but it does not say that the base should not be plugged in. So by luck i guess, i removed the webcam from the base. Restarted and when the computer had restarted the final part of the installation appeared on my screen

and

The first thing I would advise when you get your Logitech Quickcam Sphere, is visit the Logitech Website and download the very latest software/driver for this product. It probably doesn't matter if you go ahead and use the software disc that comes with the cam but it will save you time if you download the latest unless your disc supplied is already 8.3 or higher.

http://www.logitech.com/index....ID=1794,contentid=7597

I bought my cam beginning of June, the software disc/driver enclosed was version 8.1.1 but the latest available was version 8.3. A much better improved interface and latest driver.

I read about the Quickcam in an article in Computeractive Magazine, highly rated. I have to agree this cam is a good all rounder. Easy set up. Plenty options to alter image quality. Not super quality images but as good as you'll get from any web cam. At just over £70 from Amazon ( some retailers charge up to £100 ), this knocks spots off my old webcam which I paid £100 for three years ago! Although it comes with a 22cm stand, I have mine sitting on top of the monitor without stand and it's a perfect position for live chat and using the mouse/keyboard to move the lens around or use the face tracker to follow you!

Hope This Helps

Mike

hi again, right, i downloaded and installed the latest driver/software from the logitech website and restarted my computer, i then went to quickcapture to take some photos and a blue screen came up on my computer screen. it said the following:

it has detected an error : bad_pool_caller

if this is the first time i have seen this screen then reboot....it also said something about a technical error which looked something like this

0x000000c2 (0x00000040, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) i do not know whether this is of any relevance but it may help.

so i restarted my computer and went back to quickcapture and for once it did not crash for a while, but the problem still remains when i try to use msn messenger.

thanks kayla
