Logitech Revue opinions?

I am considering getting one. Can it completely replace my WD TV Live? I can't stand the WD's interface and hope the Revue's is better.

Opinions?

Logitech just reduced price to $99 today (http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/1115235/)

I own one (I paid a lot more than that new list so I guess I am stuck with it; just hope that it is better when Android update for it is released later this summer - http://blog.logitech.com/2011/05/10...-1-honeycomb-plus-android-market-this-summer/) and think it would have been a nice device if it wasn't so crippled by content providers.

It does have a small fan that is always on, so that may be an issue in a quiet room, and too my eyes (probably imagining this) the image on screen seemed slightly grainy (as in noisier, which probably shouldn't be a real issue through HDMI, but that is my impression).

wow, you're the first person who admitted they own one. 😛 I just ordered one from Amazon for $99 and looking forward to trying it out but I'm curious how the web browsing experience is on this device? Is it smooth and fast? How well do the flash videos play?

Web browsing seemed fine (I don't have very high speed connection). I think it is basically Google Chrome on 1.2 Ghz Atom processor with 4 GB RAM and integrated graphics: http://androidspin.com/2010/10/25/logitech-revue-strips-down-showing-its-1-2ghz-processor/

Flash that wasn't blocked by content providers seemed fine, but again my internet connection is probably really slow compared to everyone else.

I think receiver and keyboard are worth more than $100, google os was decent enough too, it is just that everything is blocked by content providers.

Hopefully Android will make this much more useable product than it currently is.

I heard that a ton of these were returned from the retailers because they didn't sell.

Perhaps I should wait for these to show up on Woot as refurbished for something crazy cheap like $69?

I went ahead and ordered one but it looks like it might not deliver until end of the month.

I've read some issues about hdcp (??) and comcast DVR (model # ends in 3416). Not certain what that means but from what I've read some people have to run hdmi straight to the tv rather than through their AVR's. That would be a deal breaker for me.

As I mentioned in my original post, one thing I'd like is to do away with my WD TV Live. Seems this doesn't quite play as many file types as the WD box. Wonder if that's something the new update can address or is is hardware limited??

Any other opinions on the revue?

I considered that when I first got the WD a year or more back. Looked a little more involved than what I wanted. Also, does it incorporate a web browser?

Still curious about my last question of what the update will do (if anything) as far as playing more files.

I did look at it sdi but didn't see anythignn about a web browser. Maybe I overlooked it. I really like the features of the revue like the chrome browser, keyboard and PIP. I don't think the WD live with the 3rd party firmware can do this. Maybe I'm wrong though.

modelworks can speak to it more than I can. send him a pm.

I don't see why not since it's just another linux box.

at least now you can have a dedicated low power consumption torrent machine 😛

did you at least update to the latest firmware on the wdtv live?

I may look into it but honestly it won't change much since I want to try the Revue. If I hate the revue I will return it and keep the WD. But if the new update comes out and it does everything the WD does then I will either move the WD to another room or just get rid of it.

One of my main complaints is the interface. Not sure if the firmware changes it or not but I just don't like it. From the reviews I've seen the Revue has a better interface.

revue is at least 1 gen newer than wdtv live. just get the revue I guess.

The Revue will be very worthwhile is GoogleTV turns out to have a future, otherwise it's pretty crap.
It's not made for local content, but for streaming the web. And that requires constant updates to continue working...
So it's a $100 gamble.

Do you have one or used one? I got one recently because of the price drop and I find the device well worth the money. The browser is very nice and you can stream stuff from the web but you can also stream your local content from your networked PC wirelessly or you can attach usb hard drive. It has played pretty much every mkv and avi files flawlessly from my networked PC. The only time the unit updated was during the first initial setup of the device.

Revue is great for $99. It's leagues better than stock AppleTV. But I'll still take jailbroken AppleTV with XBMC over Revue GoogleTV.

Does that mean it won't play files of of a usb drive connected to it? Or do you just mean that wasn't the reason it was made but it will still do it?

It's not it's primary purpose, and there are better devices for that purpose.

That said, for $100 you're not taking a big risk, and you don't have many other options for $100. (but putting $100 towards a more expensive and functional device might be worthwhile)

The wireless keyboard of the revue seems worth $100 on its own though.

The Revue will have better web content than the WDTV Live... but the Revue file codec support/playback is no where near the WDTV Live... I say keep both if anything...

Thanks Destiny.

Do you think the file support is something that can be enhanced via firmware, etc. or is it a hardware limitation?

A little of column A and a little of column B.
The cpu is probably fast enough to do standard definition of most video formats.
The gpu only supports acceleration of a few types of video.
