Logitech programmed double-click won't open Office files

I have tried this on three different models of Logitech mice (MX900 Bluetooth, MX1000 Laser, and MouseMan Cordless Optical) and would really appreciate it if a few people with a Logitech mouse running with Logitech's new SetPoint configuration software would please try to replicate this for me, which Logitech says they can't do. (Actually, most who have this problem would already know it by now. It's very annoying. But let's replicate...)

COMPONENTS NEEDED:

- Any modern Logitech cordless mouse (optical or laser; RF or Bluetooth)

- Logitech's SetPoint mouse configuration software

- XP with "Folder Options" set at default ("double-click to open an item")

- Office 2003

STEPS TO TAKE:

- Program one of the mouse buttons to act as a double-click

- Open any Office 2003 program

- Select "File - Open" to open a file in the Office program

- On any file or folder in the list, mouse over it and hit that programmed button

That's it. Did it do anything? Did it open the file or folder?

The problem I'm having is that it isn't opening the file or folder like it should. It only ends up selecting (highlighting it), just as if I'd used a regular single left-click to select/highlight it. Once it has been selected, THEN the programmed double-click button will open it, but that's counter-intuitive since that takes two clicks to achieve.

Note that the problem exists in "some" other places in XP when trying to open a file or do other similar things in a file list, but in plenty of places the programmed double-click works just fine -- the way it's supposed to. In ALL Office 2003 programs, though, the problem I'm having occurs whenever I try to do File - Open.

I do not know if the same problem would exist if I used a corded mouse. I didn't try one.

Logitech insists they can't replicate the problem. I think they're full of crap. I would really appreciate other users finding out for themselves if this is a Logitech problem or is, as Logitech claims, something unique to my configuration. (If it turns out it IS only on my system, the only thing I can think to look at is file access rules such as Admin/shared etc. Right now there's only one person using this computer, me, and I have not set myself up as an official "User" as yet, so I just work as Admin with no password security.)

THANKS!!!

J
