Logitech Optical mouse

I have a Logitech Optical wheel mouse (USB), and the LED blinks all the time (maybe not all the time, but a lot of the time) without me touching it. It either blinks bright/dim, bright/dim, or it just stays bright like I'm moving it, until I move it again to make it stop. Those of you with an Optical mouse should know what I'm talking about. So what the heck? It's getting pretty damn annoying.

"Get a life!" LOL

I have found that sometimes optical mice get into a position where they do this blinking or stay on. It can be due to vibrations on the desktop, do you have your PC touching the desk at all, that might be causing some small vibrations.

It may also be down to the surface it's on, I have found that optical mice don't like certain colours on mouse mats for instance!...when I use a mousemat that has green on it my optical mouse goes jerky when I scroll over the green bit!

My Logitech optical does this on occasion also. Usually all I have to do is move it a tiny bit and it'll stop flickering/flashing.

Well, the Logitech cordless mice "blink" after you stop moving it for a little while to help save on battery power. Is this what you are seeing? If it is, it's normal. Then of course, all optical mice will dim when you stop moving them.

So you all think that if it's working ok that this is not a problem? Ok then. I thought maybe it would wear out the LED light faster or something.

LED lights have a very long life span, also optical mice have less moving parts(infact I don`t think they have any moving parts, apart from buttons) then ball type mice so in theory reliability should be better.

Nope; LED's are good to like 100,000 hours or more. And on-off cycles don't seem to affect them much either.
