I'll let you know when I get my Viper. On paper, the Viper should be a little more precise, the MX better able to track very fast movement.

Which is better? Why?

I would go with the MX510,two reasons I can think of,first is it has a lot more buttons and second Logitech reliability is very solid when it comes to their mice.

i would agree with that. logitech does have a better history, but razer could have a better product. too little info for us to know right now.

Bottom line is either will be good for gaming, however the Razor does not have that many buttons so that would put me off from the start.

true. i love my microsoft explorer because of the buttons. i did not like the mx700 because of the button placement. i still think microsoft mice are the most ergonomic, for me anyway

Thanks

700 = cordless with standard mx sensor
510 has newer faster mx sensor.
310 doesn't have faster mx sensor, so its not very consistent;)

I ordered the Razer today. Although I have always used Microsoft mice in the past, I have never really used the extra buttons in games, instead using keyboard configs. A couple of the reviews I have read give better marks to the Logitech mx510 because of size, ergonomics, and extra buttons. The Razer Viper supposedly excels at gaming reaction and performance. But not by a whole lot. Another plus on the side of Razer Viper is the two standard buttons. They are very large and the sensitivity is supposed to remain constant across the entire surface of each button. This has always been the downfall of the Microsoft mice for me after they had a bit of wear. After use (here I mean heavy use), the Microsoft button's sensitivity seemed to be a bit erratic, and no, there was not a slice of pizza or a can of soda in there.

I went with the Razer Viper mainly because I saw a Boomslang a few years ago at a LAN party, and although oddly shaped, it felt really solid and comfortable. In short, a quality product. The Viper, smaller in footprint, should do well for me, because I am used to using a micro-mini with my laptop anyway, so it should not feel too small.

I will try to remember to return here and post some thoughts after I get a chance to put the new mouse through it's paces.

I loved my 2 Boomslangs until they died. Why oh why did they only put 2 buttons + wheel on the Viper??? :disgust: I'd have one in a heartbeat if they at least had a thumb button.

I finally received my Viper yesterday, can give some initial impressions of it at least. I personally like it better than the MX mice, I find it to be more comfortable to hold, however I do wish it had the extra buttons. It does in fact seem to be a bit smoother and more precise than the MX, though ever so slightly as they were pretty good to begin with. I personally didn't experience any loss of tracking ability due to fast movements in game, though I'm not a person who swings my arm back and forth like a crazed monkey either, I can cause it to skip on the desktop if I do it intentionally (intentionally meaning I can't think of any possible senario where a person would ever move a mouse at that velocity). The buttons were extremely sensitive, I don't know if this is a good point or bad point yet, I'll have to give it a few days to adjust. Between the MX and Viper I suppose I'd say it's a draw, with the Viper being more comfortable and a having a bit better tracking "feel", and the MX having those additional buttons. I'm sticking with the Boomslangs for now though as "absolute best mouse you can buy". It combines all the "good points" of the above mice, with even better precision and smoother tracking feel. The only real negative it has is cleaning it. Not too bad for what...a four year old design?

Exactly what MX mouse you mean because MX used in mouse from 300 to 900 so be more exact.
And if you dont have MX 510 then dont say that you like Razor Viper more because you cant compare with with MX 510 which have new desigin to.
