Logitech MX5000 Desktop: Anyone have it?

I'm looking at this desktop, and there are a few things I'd like clairified before I buy it, since reviews on it aren't very common.

Is the mouse and keyboard both bluetooth? I'd like to use the mouse w/ my iBook (BT enabled), but I find it odd that the Mouse is BT, but they haven't released a solo BT version of the MX1000.

Is the media control on the left removable? This probably sounds stupid, but on the logitech shite, they show it w/o the rest of the keyboard, and a review site said something about it being removable. I'm wondering if it's some sort of a wireless "remote". Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

The one review I saw said something about the LCD displaying room temp. It sounds unlikely since it'd be a touted feature. Did he perhaps mean the outside temp the software got from the internet?

AFAIK, both are Bluetooth. Bluetooth isn't as big a market as RF (since the consumer has to have the capability to start with), so it might not make business sense for them tor release it separately. I must admit that I wouldn't have minded the upgrade to my MX900, but that's life.

The media controls don't look removeable - I think they're there so the keyboard can have the "Windows MCE compatible" branding. The diNovo variant has a removeable numberpad (oh, how I wish I could justify the $250).

FYI I picked this up last night and I LOVE it. I went from one of those "ricer" Siatek keyboard that are lit with blue EL, and an MX700 to the MX5000. What a step up.

The keyboard does display room temp on the LCD. I know it's not outside temp because it said 75 last night and it was about 50 degrees here in MI last night. :) It also displays the user currently logged in, "system messages" (whatever that means), and email and IM notifications (I had a whole MSN Messenger message from a contact in mine that messaged me when my monitor went into power save mode and turned off... kinda cool).

The media pad part of the keyboard does not come off. It's kinda cool though, you can pause, play, next/prev track, vol up/down, and control iTunes with it. The LCD on the keyboard can also be used to control iTunes playlists. (I say iTunes... that's what I use, you can also control MusicMatch, Winamp, etc. with it).

The keyboard and mouse are both Bluetooth and work with other devices. I'm using the MX Laser now on my Vaio T350P and it works great!

I've used this and a DiNovo and I like this one better. The keyboard isn't as small as the DiNovo, but the fact that the Media Pad features are integrated makes it nice, and the mouse is better IMO.

The only thing that would have been super nice is a backlight on the LCD on the keyboard.

Definitely worth the $ though... especially since it's $100 cheaper than the DiNovo, you get a better mouse, and you don't have to have the media pad kicking around.

one question is, does the computer detect keyboard/mouse under DOS mode? (or when computer boots into BIOS), windows setup... etc ?

Yup works fine. I have a system that dual boots to xp/linux, and was worried because at first it wasn't working at the bootloader, but would work fine in my initally OS loadup (linux). I had to change my bios setting so that it would allow the BIOS to handle USB keyboards, and all is well.

Just got my keyboard/mouse setup today, and love it. I do agree, I really wish the LCD would of been backlit, as I do use the keyboard in the dark, so its a little pointless. From the pictures online I thought it was backlit. Something to fix in the future.

It does connect well to Winamp and display song names on it, which is a really nice touch. So is the media keys on the left.

I got the mx5000 2 weeks ago. Here are my comments.

1) I use it with windows 2000 and most of the features are not supported in W2K
2) The bluetooth mouse did not work very well with w2K. I had a lot of lag and I am still not sure if this will go away with winXP
I own the mx1000 mouse and its very fast.
3) The volume controls are agreat.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think there is a Windows 2000 servie pack or update that adds bluetooth to the OS.

Questions about the mouse:
1. Does it eat through batteries as fast as the MX900?
2. Does it weigh less than the MX900?
3. Is the tracking noticably better than the MX900? I found it to be somewhat less precise in BT mode, for whatever reason.

I've been tossing around the idea of upgrading to the MX5000 series (and I'm buying a warranty - I spill soda on my new, expensive keyboards EVERY TIME), but I was kind of unsatisfied with my MX900's compromises. It was a good mouse, and gave me the BT capabilities I wanted, but at this point, I'm not sure a separate BT dongle and an MX1000 (SWEET MOUSE!) wouldn't be a better buy. Replacing batteries in the keyboard definitely doesn't excite me...

I also have some questions about this Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, if anyone can help me I will be thankful.

1. I currently have a wireless keyboard and get allot of problems with my cell phone interfering with it. Sometime it also has problems picking up keys pressed. I play allot of FPS games and play online. So I?m wondering what is the response time (lag on the keyboard/mouse).
2. I was warned that Bluetooth keyboards/mouse usually isn't such a great idea. Is there anything I need to know in the line of not good?

Thanks for the help if ya reply :)
