Logitech MX300?

I am currently using the Razer BoomSlang2000. I like it, but they messed up on some of them and made the rollers sorta egg-shaped. So when I'm going from the upper right hand corner of my screen to the bottom left hand corner of my screen it sometimes sticks. I was just going to wait until the new BoomSlang2300 came out but a friend told me to just forget the ball mouse entirely. I've used optical before, so it's not something new to me or anything like that, but I'm just concerned that the MX300 will not be as smooth or be as sensitive while still smooth as the boomslang. Anyone have related experience that could help me out?

Oh and I looked at the MX500, but there were some complaints about how it felt in the person's hand - too skinny, ring finger doesn't lay in the right spot, etcetera. I think I'll be safer with the 300.

I'll be gaming, of course.

I have the MX300 mouse for my PC, and the MX700 for my Mac (MX700 is the MX500 but cordless). I think i like the MX700 better in terms of comfort and shape but i think the MX300 tracks better. I know it has to do with the fake wood grain pattern of my desk, but the MX700 requires me to use a mouse pad on the besk while the MX300 doesn't. It might be the specific pattern that the MX700 travels over or maybe its the cordless thing. MS300 mouse is nice but for gaming, it doesn't have that many buttons on it. Tracking is pretty smooth and its nice not having to clean the ball. There is a button on both the MX700 and the MX300 that switches applications which can come in handy. Both good mice.
 
Alright, thanks. I don't really use any unordinary buttons for gaming, just the scroll wheel and left/right buttons. So that sounds pretty good.

Anyone used the boomslang and the MX300/500/700?
 
Yep MX300 is great i use it on my rig, you know you can always adjust mouse speed, accel, ect ect. To fit your style.

And i also have a MX700 on my dads rig that i use sometimes. And sometimes if you don't use the mouse for awhile it's a little slow getting back up to speed cuz of the battery saving thing flashes the optical light, and if you move it inbetween flashes it takes a sec to start back-up.

But optical is definatly the way to go, especially for gaming. No more cleaning out the mouse ball while u get killed 😛! The MX700 fits my hand fine, it's cool cuz it has no buttons it's weird u gotta see it.

Thanks a lot. I'm gonna get the MX300, it's only 30 bucks anyway. I'm also gonna see if I can get this boomslang replaced because of the defective rollers. 90 dollar mouse =/. In the end my brother can take the runner-up mouse. Again, thanks.
 
i used a boomslang for a while. i then moved to a v1 Intellimouse Explorer. then a v2 Intellimouse Explorer. then a v3 Intellimouse Explorer. now i use the MX 700. i don't miss the boomslang at all.
 
I was using one of the original optical's from Microsoft and it worked pretty well but I would get that "strobe" effect if I tried to whip a 180 railshot with it. I switched over to a BoomSlang 2000 (Badass mouse) and found I was getting even better precision without the "strobe" problem. I'm now using the latest incarnation of optical mice from MS and I'd have to say it's even better than the boomslang and they've fixed the "strobe" problem so you don't get any erratic movement when whipping it real fast.

I can't really comment on the Logitech - I've not used one for anything more than casual surfing and whatnot. I will say the latest MS Optical's are the sh1t though. I like opticals much better (don't have to clean and whatnot) but I was very hesitant to give up that boomslang but I'm glad I did.

as much as the current MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 is awesome, the MX700 is even better.

It did, and it still might I'm not sure but with all the new optical technologies coming out I dunno. The BoomSlang has more pluses than just a high DPI (2000) it's got a lot of mips I think they are, not sure really. I think I'm gonna go with optical for now. I don't think I can get the boomslang replaced either, I don't think there's a warranty. I got it from thinkgeek. Oh well.

Ok now - has anyone used both the current MS opticals and the Logitechs that could tell me which would be better?

MSIE 3.0 and the Logitech MX series are both very accurate... it comes down to personal preference. Whatever shape you like best and feel most comfortable using will be the best mouse for you. I found that the MX500/700 didn't fit my hand very well so I tried an MX300 and loved it. But I also like my old MSIE 3.0. I find that the feet slide better on the MX series though, and there's a removable weight in the 300/500 which is also pretty nifty.
 
Ya I had an old intellimouse explorer, I do like the shape of that. But how much is it? The MX300 is only 25 bucks on newegg. Argh, now I guess the choice is do I want wireless or wired.

I haven't used the latest generation of opticals from Logitech. I've heard that both the Logitech and MS mice today have gotten all the initial problems with opticals worked out. I've only seen the MS at work in comparison to the boomslang but I'd put an uneducated vote in for the MX's performing well too.

 
Okedoke. Thank you all. I think i'm just gonna go with the MX300. It's cheap and sounds like one of the best. W/ a removable weight too =). I don't really want to mess with the price/batteries of wireless mice. Thanks again.
