I had that mouse (took it back because of cursor stuttering) and have a regular mouseman wheel. The only button that USED to work was setting the thumb button to 'shift' in the mouse properties in Windows, then in the game set a function to 'shift'.
After I got the latest video card, a Geforce mx, it freezes the screen when I click the mouse button if it is assigned to 'shift'. The only recourse I had was to assign it to 'middle button' in the mouse properties. Now in the game I assign whatever I want to my mouse3 and my thumb button AND my middle button do the same thing. I have mine set to 'walk' so the bad guys won't hear me. I lose one functioning button this way, but I have no chice and I will take a thumb button any day over a middle button.
I would first try setting your thumb button to 'shift' and if that doesn't work, set it to 'middle button'.
Also, the 'wheel patch' is a joke. It does not work. Don't bother with it.
