Logitech Mouse a Battery Gobbler?

I've got the Logitech Cordless Elite keyboard and mouse, and the mouse goes through new batteries every month or so. Is this typical? The keyboard is still on its original batteries (since December). Is the mouse draining power even when the computer's off? If so, is there a way to prevent that?

Yes, the Logitech wireless mouse takes a lot of power. That's why I gave mine to my dad and got another corded mouse.

You might consider investing in some good rechargable batteries.

Yup, rechargable batteriies are the way to go. Optical mouse has some LEDs burning all the time along with RF transmitter.
Does the mouse have an On/Off switch? Do you use it? Well...
.bh.
Hoping for some :sun: !

I second that about the MX700

I love the recharger feature. Batteries get low, place in charger and make a snack. Come back 10 minutes later and I can finish what I was doing. Recharge fully overnight.

Some friends of mine have wireless keyboards (Logitech too) and they haven't had any issue with battery life.

Invest the money into a rapid charger and go with it. That is what I did for my digi-cam....works wonders.

Yes DaMutha, changing the mouse batteries is a monthly chore, but buying AA batteries in bulk might help w/ the cost, I hope this helps 🙂

Wireless mice use more power than keyboards - nothing you can do about it, except get a corded mouse or a mouse with a docking station. Both drain power even when the computer is off - firstly they don't know the computer is off, and secondly you might have it set for keyboard power on, or be on standby, or something.

Easiest thing for you would be to get a set of rechargables and a fast charger. I bought a MX700 to go with my cordless elite. Now I'm going to ge the MX desktop, so I've only got one base station, and so the keyboard will be in UK layout rather than US layout (I've come back home to England since I won an elite). The differences are only tiny, but really annoying. Either I can have it set to US, and have to use character map or something to get a £, or I set it to uk, and lose the \ key cos its not in the same place. ah heck.
