Logitech mice weight

I'm very fond of my Logitech mouseman dual optical that I've had for about a year and a half now. It's perfectly weighted and tracks very well. Last Christmas I got an MX700, as I wanted to do away with the cord that plagues my desk. While the mouse felt ok in the store, when I put batteries in it, it turned into a brick. I'd seen somewhere that Logitech puts metal bars in their mice for added weight. Sure enough, they do. This is the inside of my Mouseman dual optical. I don't have an MX700 to perform surgery on. Can anyone comment on its insides? Does removing the bar significantly reduce its weight?

That hunk of metal (similar to what I removed from my MX300) is pretty weighty, but with batteries in there, I don't see it making much of a difference.

The problem I found with the MX700 was that the weight was so far to the back and the grip was so far forward that the mouse would drag its butt unless I either gripped it tightly or picked it up much higher than I do normally. I also remember having to punch through part of the bottom to get to one of the screws, so a buy and return may not even be possible. :(

Maybe if you worked out more that weight woulnd't be such an issue :D!

But Anyway! An MX700 is like what? a $50 mouse. Not something i would do surgery on. Mine feels fine with the metal bar and batteries! I like the wieght, it makes it feel a little smoother.

LOl...thats what I was going to say. I have an intellimouse that is incredibly heavy...with a clean mouse pad and some teflon tape on the feet, it glides with ease. Not sure why so many people have this "heavy mouse" problem ::scratches head::

Friction isn't the problem. I prefer a higher friction mouse than something that slides across with almost no effort. It's the balance of weight that throws me off. 2 relatively easy to access screws for the case and 2 more for the metal bar (if there is one) are hardly what I'd call surgery. Anyone have an MX700 that they've modded in some way? The ones I've seen on the net with tutorials conveniently leave out the top of the case. :|

Wonder if that bar servers any structural purpose. The mouse is a tad heavy...maybe i will have to try it without the weight...

Ok, I borrowed an MX700 from a friend of mine to check it out. No bar. :( This thing is just heavy.
