Just bought a new Logitech wired illuminated thin keyboard from newegg.

On its second day of use, the bottom right part of the keyboard became super hot and part of the plastic melted, burning the crap out of my hand a bit. Fortunately, no serious injuries.

Later, I removed the keyboard from the USB slot, plugged back in my old Logitech USB keyboard and it's been working fine. Has anyone encountered anything like this?

No but I would call them immediately and make a HUGE deal about it. Profit.

This is odd because the USB port on the pc should have cut out at .5A , they are software limited to 100ma and hardware fused at .5A. Trying to think what could be in the keyboard that would generate that kind of heat. The mcu could get that hot if the smps in the keyboard shorted and supplied it with 5VDC directly. Logitech usually uses cypress parts and normally their stuff is pretty good. Still I would investigate what part it was and why the motherboard did not cut off the power.
