Good Afternoon,

I recently have been having an issue. My PS4 kept dropping my 2 year old Headphones (Logitech F540). So after much testing of cables etc... I thought I would tear apart the wireless receiver. **Attached are images of the board / capacitor in question. **

Do you think the capacitor is blown? I just bought a second Logitech F540 brand new out of the box and was using it with the PS4... and it is now having the same problem. Opened that receiver as well to find the same exact capacitor... looking the exact same way...

Is it possible this is glue? No issue with the capacitor? Or do you think the PS4 is somehow causing the capacitor to blow?

Any thoughts are appreciated and helpful. ;)

If you're talking about the white blob in front of the 220 uF electrolytic cap, yes, that looks like white glue possibly applied to help avoid shock damage to the part.

The problem may not be that the cap is blown, but rather, that the surface mount solder connection is broken, but there's really no way to know what has failed without a schematic and diagnostic tools.

If you're not a tech qualified to analyze it and, assuming it's a replaceable part, capable of soldering surface mounted components, find someone who is, and hope the estimate to repair it isn't greater than the value of the circuit board or an entirely new product.

Good luck. :)

Thanks for your input. Your correct I do not have the tools to analyze further. I have found a temporary solution and it seems like having the circuit board exposed and running a fan on top of it has helped resolve the problem (making it more stable and not having it lose connection over and over). Looks like a heat issue.

Just odd that two of the same product is having the same issue. One old and one new... might be the PS4 causing it to have the issue.

Thanks again!

There isn't anything on that board that should be running hot enough to cause a heat issue, is it possible that what is helping is just to have it out in the open for better signal strength? I'm wondering if there is a new source of 2.4GHz interference near you, particularly since wifi is still popping up everywhere.

Here was Logitech's Response.

****QUOTE****
I’m sorry to hear that your Wireless Headset F540 randomly lose the connection. First of the headset is no longer manufactured and its possible that you must have purchased an old stock from the store, second since the headset is no longer manufactured there are no updates for the firmware for this headset and this device was designed when the PlayStation 3 was launched, we can say that this could be a possible compatibility issue since this is your second unit, however this device should be plug and play to better isolate the issue kindly try it on a different gaming console perhaps an XBox 360 or PS3 to check if you will still have the same issue. And the glue that you saw inside the capacitor don't worry about it, thats fine it shouldn't affect the device.

*************

They recommended that I claim my 30 day in-store warranty if I could not figure out the issue.

**Update from my Troubleshooting**
I happened to find a ridiculous good price for these headphones (30$) and bought a new set. (Same issue with the new set) Which is why Logitech recommends I return for the 30 day warranty.

I have found some people that have had similar issues... and I am actually thinking that the PS4 wireless might be causing the receiver issues. So it might actually be a combo of the USB & 2.4Ghz interference from the PS4. I have since moved the PS4 about 15 feet from the Logitech Receiver. It has only been 1 day of testing and it seems to have helped.

Ill keep you all posted as I have heard other people with headset issues with the PS4.
