Logitech Harmony is a massive pile of carp

The "software" comes in 2 massively and completely different flavors, they aren't compatible, neither of them work correctly or offer a complete or correct set of controls (if you can get them running at all) they are extremely unreliable and complicated. Even their "help sections" don't know anything about the software giving instructions for options and commands that don't exist. I've had better $5 programmable remotes from Walmart. Tired of this S**T!!! There has to be a better way. I just want one remote to turn on my electronics, control volume, and change channels. What a massive waste of time and money. Even once you've sold your soul to the devil to get the D*MN thing working it just ups and forgets how to control a device whenever it feels like it with no way to get it to ever work again...

This time it just "FORGOT" how to control the cable box...

Which one did you get?

Apart from just not being durable I haven't had problems. Once setup properly all is well.

Damn, my Harmony 700 has worked for years straight, goes through a beating and never once forgot anything.

Maybe you just got a bum device?

I got the cheapest one available and it has worked fine for 2 years now. I am a little perturbed by the transition to a web based configuration tool vs the old local application, but I am able to make it do everything I want it to do and it hasn't ever forgotten any of my devices. I got another higher end one for my grandparents so they could operate their home theater setup and it works fine as well, other than eating batteries at least. I think that there might be no other way they would have been able to use the system I installed for them, honestly. Pressing "watch tv" and having the remote automatically set the tv to the correct channel, set the surround sound to the correct input, turn off the blu ray player or VCR (depending on what they were watching before) , turn on the directv box, and know whether or not to use the TV or surround sound to control the volume is a veritable godsend for people in their late 70s. It certainly shouldn't be this hard for you.

$129 for a Harmony One refurb. But I absolutely refuse to spend a hundred bucks on a remote control.

Harmony 650...setting it up was a PITA, could never get it working right even after months of tweaking, and then it just randomly forgets how to control devices. Now I cant turn on or control my cable box...gotta go back to fumbling remotes. One for the TV one for cable and one for the receiver.

Oh but the harmony can turn on the Bluray and receiver at the same time...wooo.

I know what the problem is, but there's no way to fix it. The remote "forgot" what IR channel to use. Its happened before, but I was able to figure out how to change the IR channel on the device itself. MASSIVE PITA. I think I'm just finally done with this piece of crap. I used to think Logitech was a decent company with decent products...this has really soured things.

I have a Harmony 520 (one of the cheapest) and it took me a couple months to get the hang of programming it but love it once I did.

My harmony has been amazing - my only problem has been that some of my buttons have gotten iffy, but I'm guessing its from people spilling drinks on it when I was in college.

I have a 550 and it has been flawless. The only problem I had was when my digital tuner died and I bought a new one. I have the stand-alone application, and you can't just add one device to the remote. You add the device in the software, then tell it you got a whole new remote. Otherwise the software will erase ALL the other devices and only install the new one.

That wasn't hard to figure out though. There are options for all my devices that are extra (not supported) when using the screen, but it turns them on/off, switches between inputs, handles the menus, changes the channels and adjusts the volume.

I'm wondering if this is a case of expectations.

I spent $39 dollars on mine from Ebay.

i have had a harmony 1 for little over a year and love it. it controls all my stuff - 55" LG TV, DIRECTV HR24-500,onkyo HT270 and my LG BD570. runs them all and turns them all of and on with no trouble at all.

Never had any issue w/ mine or my parents- both running cable box, receiver blu ray etc.

I've had my Harmony One for almost 3 years now. Besides having issue with the battery which after calling Logitech they sent me a brand new one. Haven't come across any device that I wasn't able to control.

Well get a cheaper harmony then. I've got the 300, which is the cheapest one there is. It controls my HTPC, TV, surround sound, and knows when I want to control the volume via the TV or surround sound depending on what I'm watching. It's much better than all the other universal remotes I've tried, and it's the crappiest one Logitech makes. If this one is this good the 650 has to be awesome.

You're going to let the image of an entire company be based on a single device with a single problem when others are telling you it might just be straight up broken?

wow

Another thing with those remotes, you need to make sure you keep it pointed at the devices and that the reach angle is good for all of them. My dad has a setup like that and occasionally it will "missfire" and not turn on a certain device. Then when he turns it "off" everything turns off except that device. Then he has to use the regular remote for that device to turn it back off. Then it's ok.

My One works great. My Mastiff tried to eat it and it still works. It looks like crap but still works fine. I haven't had any issues with the software on either windows or mac. It's not the finest piece of software in the world but it works though a bit slow.

I have 4 different remotes and my 10 year old can operate everything, even switching between the xbox360, the blu ray player, directv and the wii. We almost always use the TV audio so the AVR remote is the most lonely.

I've thought about getting the Logitech Harmony because I've heard good things but just never bothered.

I got myself a Harmony 650. Didn't want rechargeable, and don't need many devices.

It's lacking in some areas where it's easier to just have the LG Wand remote as a supplement, but once it was programmed (and it wasn't too tough) I've been fine with it. Certainly cleaned up my clutter of remotes.

Certainly wouldn't call it carp.

Absolutely love my Harmony One -

Love the online set-up - so easy to do and was amazed it has ALL of my devices.

One button to turn it all on and off - genius!

Choose your activity from the touch screen and all the inputs are set up perfectly with auto switching.

Not the most durable but its a device I should have bought years ago!
