Logitech Harmony 890 significantly better than Harmony One?

I purchsed a Harmony One to replace my pile of remotes. It's not bad; the setup was pretty easy and it functions decently.

My problems:

1 - It's annoyingly inconsistent when turning on devices through the "activity" process trees. I have to use the help button one out of every 2-4 times I use the "activity" function.

2 - my fat fingers have trouble hitting the right button on the touch screen.

Now I see that the Harmony 890 is about the same price after rebate that I paid for the One. Is it worth my effort to return the Harmony One, get the 890 and wait for the rebate?

Will getting the 890 solve my two biggest beefs?

No. If anytrhing the buttons on the Harmony One are more defined any easier to hit.

As far as your first problem goes, something isn't setup right. You probably need to adjust the timing of the delay between things it tries to turn on. Its why its missing things. Adjust that to add more of a delay, and your problems will be solved.

One thing to help your inconsistency is to make sure the remote is in the most straight direction to the hardware, and that you have your timings correct. This is particularly important when turning units on for the first time. Some equipment may have a warm up time before it consistently accepts commands, and the default timings that Logitech Harmony provides you may not always be correct.

[EDIT] Beaten to the punch. :p [/EDIT]

Anyways, I use the Xbox 360 Harmony remote. I have three of them, even for two systems with no Xbox 360. I personally prefer this remote (which is similar to the 550) because it's much slimmer and lighter, has a nicer layout IMO, and doesn't require recharging. I prefer just replacing the batteries than putting it in a charging cradle. I had the 880 and hated it.

OTOH, my good friend hates the 360 and 550 remotes, and loves his 880.

unless you need the RF, the 890 really has no advantages over the One.

Got a Harmony One coming. Finally gave up on the Harmony 1000 -- worst remote ever made. Using a 550 in the meantime.

I've definitely warmed up to the Harmony One.

1 - I've gotten better at pressing the buttons accurately. I guess it just took me a little practice.

2 - The activities have gotten more reliable; I'm not sure why. I did mess around with the remote quite a bit (including a few reprogrammings).

I also have a 550 and I 100% agree, the Harmony 1000 the biggest pile of crap ever made. I can't tell you the hours I have spent dealing with their awfulness. I have my fingers crossed that the 1100 won't be as terrible. The only gripe I have about harmony ones is that the touch screen can be a bit, well, touchy.

Just got the One tonight. My god it's awesome. Just the right size and weight and the buttons are perfect. My only complaint with the 550 was the numbers buttons are too small. Still, I am keeping that for the bedroom.

Touch screen feels a little over-sensitive, yes, but there's an option for it. I'll have to play with it.
