I am thinking about getting the new Logitech Harmony 880. They looked cool at best buy. Does anyone here have one and what is the good and bad on them?

I don't have one, but I think they are more for people who are able to spend rediculous amounts of money on home theators. When I get older and have a better job, you best believe I will be getting one of these (or the modern day equivelent.)

I got mine for about $180 a while back.

I'm on my second one right now
http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/YOyoYOhowsDAjello/880s.JPG

My first one had a screen that got progressively worse as I used it. You can even kind of see it on the left in the picture there. The default display images when it was in the charging station were burning into the screen.

I changed the charging icon to a blank black screen on it after I figured out what was happening, but it wasn't happy with the screen after it was like that so I asked them what I could do about it. They sent me a replacement which is the one on the right.

On the new one I did the same black charging change to the setup, but the screen still isn't 100% consistent for color, I guess they're all not really perfect.

This new one just started acting up two weeks ago. I've only gotten it to recognize the charging station once during that period. The connection between the remote and the charging station is the same type of badly designed spring loaded connector going to a flat gold surface on the device that logitech uses for some of its wireless mice.

The remote has also started rebooting itself at random times and when I pick it up about 20% of the time it will reboot rather than starting normally (so then it forgets what settings were active before the reboot and I have to reselct the active activity blocking the remote from actually turning on the devices that are in fact already on).

I've also started experiencing the not so great motion sensor problem. Occationally it now fails to recognize that I picked it up and stays off.

Alright... so there's my mini-rant on my remote that I love when it's working. I must have gotten a dud as my replacement, but my first one worked fine except for the screen problem. When they do work, they are great if you have a lot of devices and settings to change. I have a rather low amount of devices with two receivers, a projector, a vcr, and a DVD player. If you have that amount of devices or more, this or another harmony remote would probably be a good idea.
The activity feature is nice as you just need to push one button and the remote will turn on all the devices necessary and select the appropriate settings.

Before to watch a movie I needed to turn my projector on, set it to component input, turn on the receiver, select DVD as the input, turn on the DVD player, turn on the bass shaker receiver manually (didn't come with a remote but the harmony database had the codes so now it happens automatically), and then once everything was on I was using the receiver remote for volume, the projector remote to change aspect ratio, and the DVD player for navigation.

Not I just hit "watch a DVD" and then can do aspect ratio, volume, and DVD navigation easily with the default buttons and the programmable 8 buttons you can customize.

So I'm going to call Logitech today to try to get this sorted out. It's a great remote when it's working.

Update: RMA on the way :p

Glad to see you changed your Avatar back to the one that looks like you.

Nice mini review though good advice.

Well I was kind of irritated when I wrote it so I'm sorry it came off as more of a rant.

It's a very nice remote when it does work

I just purchased one, with an employee discount for $129 and I am sending it back. For the price, I don't think it is worth it. The buttons are too small and lack good feel.

I think it's great. It works with everything you can imagine. It's so simple to set up, it's a breeze. It feels like a quality remote (quality materials used to make it). I do agree that the price might be a bit too high. If it was $100-$120 range it would be worth it. But again, they do have a cheaper version without LCD screen that's $75.

I'm on my third Harmony remote. My wife, six year old and three year olld are all able to use the remote with little help. I wish Harmony would stop making them better, I'm now looking to buy my forth one. Not that my parents or brother will complain since one of them will get my current one.

 Doing great.

This is the best looking screen out of all the ones I've had and it even feels more responsive. I think I have a winner here.

I've had good luck with mine for a few months now. The web-based configuration is cumbersome, but very thorough. I just heard there's a new IR/RF version for $400. No thx.
