Logitech Harmony 880/890

Looking to get my GF a nice remote for Xmas, the 880 seems sweet, trying to figure out what the hell makes the 890 so much more expensive, looks like it add's RF, which I don't see a need for. Wondering if they fixed the charging base problems a lot of people were having with the 880's?

if the only real difference is the RF, I'll go with the 880 instead.

I currently have a Harmony 880 that I picked up from Dell for $130. Love the looks and functionality. The only knock on the 880 is the number buttons on the bottom are kinda smallish for my fingers.

The major differences that I saw when comparing the 880 and 890 are that the 890 added RF and backlight buttons

don't care about RF but I thought the 880 was backlit ugh, makes my decission harder now, thanks for the info. Dunno what the hell had me thinking the 880 would light up 🙁

It is rather lame that the 880 key pad doesn't light up.

I only really end up using play/pause/stop though and those are easy enough to find. If you only have a few keys you need to use, you can just program them to be up in the screen area and that will sure light up 😛

awesome I was tripping when you said it wasn't backlit, for 250 bucks retail I'd expect it. Now I know to get an 880, even if the charging base problem still exists.

If you have major issues, contact Logitech and they'll take good care of you. I actually had a messed up LCD screen on my first 880 and then major charging / battery problems on the second one. Third one works like a champ though 😉

I've heard good things from it only bads are really the buttons are hard to hit not rubber from what i've heard like a hard plastic and some people have had a problem with it sitting on the dock.

I am also thinking about picking one up but for my whole family and me of course 🙂

can't decide between these though:
Logitech Harmony 720
Harman Kardon TC 30
Logitech Harmony 880
