Logitech Harmony 688 remote

This is the neatest toy...I just managed to replace 4 remotes with this unit, maybe 5 if it accepts my N6 processor. One thing I noticed that if you have a mutiple DVD disc tray you cant select ecah individual tray to play that particular DVD/CD. I am still experimenting. I manged to program my tv,dvd,cd,PS2,Xbox,DLP,satelitte through this easily. On the projector (X2 and 4805)I noticed that there were only 2 selections for screen size and I have 4 on my unit itself, I havent gone through all the menus thoroughly though to see if they are there.( I paid $110 for mine off a member here..thanks)

I thought about getting a Harmony remote, but then I realized that I'm not gonna pay $200 for a remote.

You can pick them up for $100 or so if you shop around.

For example: Link.

If you're a Tivo user there's a 25% rebate making the final price $75 for this awesome remote!

Pics, specs and review of the awesome Harmony 659

Thats a 659 not 688...I was just pointing that out

I have the H680. It is nice in it's function but I don't really like the feel of the buttons when you press them. The center directional dial is a pain to use and doesn't always register what I am trying to push. Programming and functionality wise it is very nice. The web based programming interface is genious and simple to use.

Which is why I said FOR EXAMPLE. I'm sure Modeps can shop around a bit if he's after a specific model.

I have the 680 also, awsome remote, but your right the middle dial can be a pain. I would love to see the 880.

Is the directional dial like the one on the Tivo remote (just a round circle that "rocks" from the center?) That's my biggest pet peeve about the Tivo remote, I'm always going to the wrong screen it seems like.

Maybe I just haven't done as much "driving" with the remote to get used to it. I think it's a design flaw though - because the circular d-pads on game controllers are the same way for me (only they're not as bad because the cross is usually raised)

does the 680 have a mouse function when using it with your HTPC? I need a remote to replace my TV/4805/Happauge 250/Receiver/HTDV Tuner/DVD/Mouse/

Hmmm can I use the H659 to replace the remote comcast gave me for my DVR box? Right now, I kinda use that remote as my "main" remote but it doesn't have all the controls that my tv/receiver remotes have.

Yes. It can control many more devices than the Comcast remote and is much more customizeable.

Sweet! Can this remote be "taught" as well? Meaning if I have a device that's not supported, can I train the remote and manually program the buttons?
If so, I'll be buying one today 😀

Not sure, but the odds are your device will be supported.

Can this remote control devices that use RF, rather than IR? My receiver (a Kenwood VR-4090) came with an unwieldy universal remote that includes both, and the receiver itself uses RF. I'd like to replace it at some point if possible.

Ahhh ok. I'm just thinking of my Sony Camcorder remote but I'm sure it'll be supported. Also the remote for my creative labs audigy 2.
