If you have multiple components with remotes buying a Harmony remote is the best $50 you can spend -IMHO.

Best Buy currently has the 550 for $49.99. Link. Free Shipping or in-store.

great remote I have the 3(upstairs, downstairs, spare) of the 360 version. Got them off a Beach Audio price mistake at $54.

I prefer the Harmony remotes to the other standard IR learning remotes any day.

Yes, it's a learning remote. It's better than the MC MCE remote.

Harmony 520 $30 shipped:

ebay link removed

Differences between Harmony models:

http://www.remotecentral.com/c...armony/thread.cgi?4251

The 550 comes in a darker color, replaces the Mute & Previous buttons with Page Up/Down. Adds & Moves the Mute/Previous buttons below the Volume & Channel buttons. Also adds the Picture, Sound, A, B buttons in an extra row below the keypad. Keys are softer (like the 676) and a tad shallower compared to the 520.

Side by Side picture of both remotes

Very happy Harmony 550 owner. Highly recommend! Great price too. I paid 129 for mine a year or so ago.

Will this work with a 360 or is the actual Harmony 360 required for that/ Sorry if thats a dumb question, but I'd love to get rid of our 4 remotes + xbox controller.

And the IR receiver too I would think, unless you have a PC with a built-in MCE IR receiver.

Looks like a good deal though, would this or a Harmony 880 Refurb from Amazon for $80 be a better deal?

Logitech already controls my life! The newly announced G13 and G18 surely won't help....

Thanks allisolm and edplayer.

I got in on the 520 deal at ebay and at the price for either one of these remotes one can't go wrong.

BTW:
The ebay deal on the 520 is back renewed and is available for another 10 days.

in order for it to learn, don't you need to have a MCE remote first?

That's the beauty of the Harmony remotes. You can program your remote using their database of THOUSANDS of devices IR codes already included by USB.

You can also fall back on IR learning he old way if they done have you device in there database.

Any major manufacturer/device should be in their system

Their method is based on activities (watch TV watch dvd, play games) rather then just stringing IR codes together, and is much better IMHO.

For instance you pick your devices, tell it how they are hooked up (whats plugged where), and it builds the correct code sequences, and builds the activities for you.

It may finally be time for me to get one of these. The universal that came with my cable tuner has decided it doesn't need to do anything but volume on the TV.

Yes, this remote will control both MCE and your 360. It works both of mine flawlessly. You do need to have the MCE IR receiver hooked into your PC, though. Just the receiver can be tough to find so I had to buy a combo (MCE remote & IR receiver) even though I needed only the receiver. Make sense?
