Logitech G9

I was wondering if any gamers here had this, and if so, how do you like it? Is it actually a good mouse? Currently, I'm using a Razor Diamondback from... 2005 I think. I have a MS Habu, but it's awful because the firmware built into it causes it to be a shaky mouse.

Anyway, I game and compute daily. I'm on my PC for a good part of the day so it has to be comfortable still. Also, if it's any indication, I hold me mouse with a claw instead of my palm.

excellent gaming mouse.
i use the rough slimmer sleeve.
the profile switching is automatic and useful. no complaints at all in fps like cs source/team fortress etc.

No. If you use the slim casing, it's good for fingertips

disagree, it guards against accidental activation in games, it is stiffer but it makes sure that activation is intentional. you get used to it.

as for the slim vs wide hand covers..yea only the bigger one is a palm hold. i don't use it because its too wide.

I don't know why they put that scrolling switch under the mouse... made the hyper-scrolling feature kinda pointless if it's such a pita to use. Other than that, it's up to personally preference.

I just didn't like the shape much. I much prefer the MX518/G5/G500. And the G500... I don't have any use for the third thumb button. Logitech screwed up the G5 with only one thumb button. Then they overdid it with the 3 thumb buttons on the G500.... They had it right the first time with the MX518....

well i dunno, i only switch to ratchet in games. hyperscrolling is my default windows use.
though it is stupid to put the switch on the bottom, that is true. i prefer the shape to my older mx shaped mice

optimally it needs a top ratchet switch or auto switch like the rev and such. the profile switch should also be somewhere more reachable. thing is the drivers dont update for old mice. so mx 518 and such have such primitive feature free drivers that it just isn't worth bothering with. i love auto profile switching, it just works when you don't have a mouse with a billion buttons, esp since the g9 leds change to so many different colors making sure you know its switched to the right profile.

G9 is very cool. I don't personally own one but I've used one before. Well, actually I used the upgraded one...the G9x. It's just a souped up G9, but its only like $15 more so you may want to check it out. Very versatile and the customization options make it well worth the money.

I know you are asking about the G9, but as an alternative you might consider the G5. It's now considered a legacy device by Logitech, but I can tell you it is a great gaming mouse. Corded, yes, but extemely accurate and can be weighted as you wish with the accompanying weights. My kill rate in COD4 has gone up considerably since I started using it. Can be had for about $50 from various online sellers.

I went from using a Razer lachesis to the G9, and I could not be happier. My lachesis would be shaky from time to time due to the firmware, and it got to the point where I ordered a G9 just to try it out. No way I would ever go back.

I am using a Razer destructor pad with mine.

I started out with a mx518, which is a bit bulky but surprisingly decent for semi-claw grip IMO. Then came the diamondback 3G, which I instantly preferred mostly for its better shape for gripping. Finally, I got my G9 and it once again replaced the razer for the mouse on the main rig. Now the mx518 is on a laptop and the razer is on the secondary desktop.

While I agree about the sensitivity switching being useful, the main reason I like G9 so much is its shape and texture of the slim hand covers. To me, it's got the best shape for gripping among the mice I have tried ever since mx300/310. Out of the three, G9 feels by far most comfy and natural, bar none; db ain't bad but a bit too long for my tastes.

I am quite indifferent about extra buttoms, so that point is a bit moot to me.

yea at first you kinda want to use the fatter one because the coating is smooth rubber you are more used to, looks "fancier" but in use the rougher slim cover comes out ahead

I used the razor diamond back and then the death adder. Recently switch to the G9. I must say I love the G9 epically with the slim grip on it, for finger tip use.

I also took all of the weight out of it, so it is super light and very easy to use.

I recently ordered the G9 about a week ago, but Logitech has been very lapsed about shipping it. I'm glad everyone here loves it. I've been using the first edition of the Razer Diamondback for about 5 years, and it's been the best mouse I've had. It's starting to show it's age and has lost all of it's appeal.

I just can't wait to get this mouse finally after hearing so many great things. I love using my fingertips. I can't hold a mouse any other way.

The most unique aspect with the G9 is the fact that the shape of the mouse can be changed, something no other mouse has ever offered. The interchangeable grips are an excellent idea and the mouse ships with two different grips so hopefully Logitech will follow through and release more grips for it in the future.

The G9 has been out for a while now... the only thing they managed to do with the interchangable grip is have customized pictures printed onto grips. I believe they promised a larger variety of grips, but I have yet to see any grip other than the fat and slim grips that come with the G9.

I've had two - on the first one, the wide grip wore out and started to peel, and the mouse wheel got dirty and wouldn't "hyper scroll" any more. I contacted Logitech and after having me provide proof of purchase, they sent a brand new one absolutely free without requesting the old one back. Thumbs up to them.

Anyway, I've since replaced it with a G500. While I liked the G9, I prefer the slightly larger shape of the G500 over a long period of use. The G9 could be a bit fatiguing sometimes.

I will say this though: the G9 felt very compact and thus solid. The G500 feels like it's full of air in comparison. It does make it seem like the G9 is of higher quality, but who am I to say? I haven't opened either one up.
