Logitech G27 clutch and gear stick question

Hi guys! I recently bought a Logitech G27 racing wheel, I was just wondering are the clutch and manual gear stick works the same way as real manual transmission car works? I noticed that I can switch gears even without depressing the clutch pedal. In real world you cannot shift gears without pressing the clutch. I am not yet sure if this is game dependent as the only game I have tried is rFactor.

Thanks for any replies.

all it is, is extra input sensors. a game would have to process them to make them worthwhile, so i would assume yes it is game dependant.

i cant think off hand any mass market racer that offers realistic clutch perfomance.

shoot, its hard sometimes just getting force feedback!

It is entirely game dependent.
Some games will have an automatic clutch even on manual gearing, while others will have the option to enable manual clutch or automatic clutch.

I can't remember which games have manual clutch options, but it's less common than having an automatic clutch since most people don't care for the manual clutch option as it's not very common on controllers.

You would probably be best to search Google/etc for somewhere that might have a list of manual clutch games. I'm sure it will have been discussed elsewhere on sim-oriented gaming forums for one thing.

Here's a starting point for one thread with some games.

The G25/G27 clutch operation is game dependant.

They do a great job of "simulating" a real manual, but they won't teach you how to drive stick.

The only racing game that I know of that actually simulates realistic clutches was an old Viper Racing game. IIRC, it even let you specify a key or axis to let you slip the clutch. If you used a manual clutch, you did have to use the clutch to shift.

Thanks guys for the replies! So the gear stick is locked until you press the clutch only for certain games... I will check if I can try out the games mentioned. One of the main reason why I bought the Logitech G27 is because I want to play racing games with a control as close to reality. The game I really wanted to use the G27 is Gran Turismo.
