Version 1 already has tons of support and 3rd party applications. When I find it, I will post a link to the largest G15 v1 development site. Tons of cool downloads there.

May find cheaper at Best Buy on clearance, but YMMV. See SD for more info...

my friend picked up one of the v2's and said some of the applets and stuff run with either v1 or v2, the software is apparently similar.

best 2 ive found are the site and especially forums of
http://www.g15mods.com/ and http://www.g15forums.com/

but yeah, v1 is the one with 18 macro keys(along with 3 function modes, so 54 functions really) where the v2 has only 6 keys, lcd doesn't fold down to protect/cover it, and the keys light up orange instead of blue. I believe the keyboard in general is more compact. After owning the v1 for almost 2 years, i'll never give it up. my keys have been faded and worn for about a year, cant even read the wasd or numberpad keys. The macro keys come in incredibly useful for gaming though...when I played warcraft, i could map a macro key to ctrl+shift+q, then press that 1 button and have it do the command. amazing keyboard..

This keyboard has had that feature since the 1980's and has been in production (ownership changed hands once) since then. It requires no drivers and has fully programmable macros with TRUE MECHANICAL ALPS (BEST BRAND/KIND of) KEY SWITCHES.

heh true, but that one is also $150. and doesnt light up, have a lcd, have 18/54 programmable keys, and its not able to change its keybinds depending on what application you're running. that one rocked in the 80s, this g15 rocks in the..00's?

It works with linux or any other OS. Unlike the cheaper made Logitech, the print on the keys does not wear off after 90 days and it's built to last a lifetime. Plus if it does break, parts and repairs are easily obtainable. You get what you pay for.

The screen is more of a novelty and those can be bought separately and connected via USB.

G15 MSRP $100- Lasts a few years
CVT Avant Stellar $150- Lasts a lifetime under hard use.

If the CVT ever went on sale, it would be the better buy.

But so highly functional and 1337 geeky. G15 Says "I'm a poser geek". Avantstellar with hard coded Linux compatible macros says "I am White Hat Linux Geek, getting in my way costs my salary $22.58-a-minute".

Forgive the shameless plug, but here's a review of the new version of the G15 which enumerates the differences pretty well, if I do say so myself.

I own both versions, and recently grabbed a second original G15 (newegg w/ MIR) in case I ever need it.

The new version has smoother key action, but the old version has more G-keys and changing the LEDs is easy.
