hello,

so i can find the logitech f710 and microsoft xbox 360 gamepads for roughly the same price. any reason to get one over the other? i've had good experience with logitech products so far, but no complaints with any of the microsoft keyboards or mice either.

i'll be using it to play NHL 09 (i can't wait, i LOVE NHL games 😀)

also... any other PC games that are really good with gamepads? I haven't played any NBA games in years, any good ones out there right now?

Thanks.

Edit: this might be a stupid question but can the wireless gamepads also be used while wired?

I got an Xbox controller for PC a few months ago, and it's a solid gamepad. They only annoying thing about it is that some games won't let you remap the keys.

All-in-all I prefer my old Logitech rumblepad and might get a new one soon.

I find the Xbox 360 controller to be easily one of the most comfortable and useable gamepads ever created.

That, and the fact that 99% of PC games that support gamepads in the last 6 years have 360 controllers mapped right out of the box, and that would easily get my vote.

But (for ex.) - if I don't want to use the trigger for acceration, why should I have to?

But isn't that a function of the game itself and not the controller? The Xbox controller can be remapped if the game will allow it.

The 360 controller is the best option imo.

While you cannot always set every single button (some games do let you remap buttons individually, but not all), you can usually select from different layouts, and I never had an issue with the layout not 'feeling' right.

Besides the fact most games auto detect and are ready when you turn on the 360 controller, another big benefit comes when you get into button pressing events. It is second nature to think of B as red, and when a red B pops up, it's easy to find without looking and fast... not so good when a red B pops up, and you gotta remember it's button 7 on a custom button modified controller.

Another thing to consider is that the button layouts usually get alot of thought in games. Remapping individual buttons could actually be a detriment, in a situation where you don't realize A+B will be a move later on, and you mapped that to two different sides of your controller (gimped yourself without knowing it, and fixing it by changing binds mid-game suck - issue I actually ran into).

Xbox 360 pad all the way.

The only reason to get anything else is if you needed a better D-pad (the one on the 360 controller sucks). But otherwise, yeah.

You're going to be deeply disappointed in NHL for the PC (from what I read). It's much, much different than the console versions in a bad way and the console version was great.

I played it really quick with the keyboard/mouse and yeah, WTF! So sad.

Please recommend me your favorite gamepad-friendly games to make up for this insanity!

With the amount of PC games that are console ports nowadays its nice to be able to start up a game and have the buttons already mapped to your Windows 360 controller.

Also another thing to consider is that if you play competitive/sports games on the computer having the 360 controller makes it relatively painless to go to your friends place who has a Xbox360 and pick up a controller and play with/against.

What a lot of posters here do not realize is that the Logitech F710 supports Xinput. Any game that works right out of the box for the 360 controller will work exactly the same for the F710. It also supports the older DirectInput.

Personally, I like the joystick layout of the 360 over the F710, so I stick with my corded 360 controller.

I don't think it's that but rather people more or less prefer the analog stick layout of the 360 controller. Logitech seems to be stuck in the PS2 days where that was the dominate controller and everyone just copied the Dualshock 2 design. My thumbs are big enough where the Sony inspired design means i bump thumbs on occasion, something I never do with the 360 controller. Plus I prefer the trigger and bumper layout of Microsofts controller more. Just my opinion though.

I received the 360 controller and LOL wtf! NHL 09 keeps pulling the goalie by itself every 5 seconds even when I'm not pressing any buttons! I googled it and turns out lots of other people have the same issue with the PC version of NHL 09. So disappointing.

So what other games are good on a gamepad like this? Also, I bought the Logitech too to compare them but I'm still waiting on that to be delivered.

360 gamepad is great because its just plug and play with most new games, you don't have to jump through any extra hoops to get it to work.

i have an f710 and it is the best of both worlds. some games work better with xbox mode (where it's indistinguishable from an xbox controller) and some better with directx mode (logitech cordless rumblepad 2). the connection quality seems good and it's pretty mild on AA batteries.

extra hoops? there is a switch on the top of the controller - that's it. are you that lazy or simple?

So what other games are good on a gamepad like this? .

Pretty much anything that's NOT an FPS, and was primarily intended for consoles first.

My recommendation:

Batman Arkham Asylum and Arkham City

I found the gamepad controls to be MUCH more intuitive and comfortable.

Thanks for all the replies so far, much appreciated.

I just received the Logitech F710, and oddly enough it does NOT pull these strange goalie-pulling shenanigans.

In my experience console controllers (official ones from MS or Sony) last longer than other controllers. This has been my experience with 2 Xbox 360 controllers and 6 PC controllers.

The games I played with an xbox 360 controller on the pc are:

Alan Wake
Bastion
Batman Arkham Asylum/City
Dead Space 1 and 2
LA Noire
Resident Evil 5

So basically any third person game designed primarily for the console I'll play with a controller. As far as the above games the Batman and Dead Space games would be the ones I'd most highly recommend.

Nice ok, I actually have Dead Space 1 and 2 in my steam list, I never really played them yet. I'll give them a try.

Hi,zCypher,can you say,what better:
Microsoft Xbox Wireless Controller or Logitech F710?
