Logitech Dual Optical- worth it?

I am typing this right now with my POS RBS2k which is half-broken. Should I buy a Logitech Dual Optical? It has 2 800 dpi sensors, so would that actually be more like 1600 dpi? My Razer Boomslang 2000 is 2000 dpi... so that should be close enough. Help :(

no... its only 800... it uses 1 sensor or the other based on which returns a better signal.

That's only 800 dpi. How is it better? It's more expensive?

the dual optical from logtech realllllly fits my hand good. Everytime i use a single optical i'm like "this is a piece of sh!t!" I've never in my life used a single optical, only mouse balls.... lol.... and yeah, it's definitly worth it.

Now why would it only use one at a time? I can't believe this. My mouse is dying and I need something NOW. 800 dpi is not good enough.

Ugh... I'm used to moving my mouse 3/4ths of an inch and having the pointer go all the way across the screen (1024x768). Help.

Read some reviews and you will find out.

From an EarthVillage review:

The sensor captures images at the rate of 4.7 megapixels per second, providing users with the greatest degree of accuracy and the smoothest mouse movement ever. You won't have to worry about the "pointer skipping" even in fast paced games like Counter-Strike and Unreal Tournament 2003.

From an IGN review:

This would all be for naught if the MX 500 wasn't fast and accurate. Thanks to a greatly improved optical system, the MX 500 performs better than the Dual Optical, despite its single eye system. That's right: the mice in the MX line are not dual optical models. However, Logitech reworked the optical system and tweaked the DSP and came up with an incredibly useful mouse.

Right... So, anyways, I might just buy that dual optical and see how it is. If it really is as fast as my deadslang, I'll keep it. Otherwise...

800 dpi... how does this 4.7 megapixel thingy work out? I just want something as smooth or almost as smooth as what I have now.
EDIT: I'm reading a review comparing the MX500 to the dual optical... looks like I'll try this bad boy and see how it is.

No idea but here's a link to the IGN review that I took the quote about it being better than the dual optical.

Would 800 dpi mean that if I were to move the mouse one inch it would go across the screen on an 800 pixel resolution?

I had a Boomslang 2000 and loved it. I really like balled mice. It developed a problem and while I was waiting on a replacement I have the Logitech Dual Optical a shot. The thing I don't like bout it is that it tracks when you pick it up (unlike a balled mouse). I just had to get used to lifting it a little higher.

It doesn't move quite as smoothly as the Razer, but it's just as accurate. Easy to get used to. It's not quite as comfortable as the Boomslang (I liked the way it felt) but it gets the job done and I recommend it if you want to abandon the Boomslang. I haven't had one single tracking problem. No matter how fast I move it, it can keep up.

no, its just a degree of accuracy, u can change how fast using the speed slider remember? it just means its sensitive and accurate. u ever move a ball mouse a tiny bit and have nothing register? hehe

Couldn't agree more, I bought one a week ago to use as a backup while my wireless intellimouse is being replaced. Now I wonder if I'll be going back to the MS.

BTW-I had to use the intellimouse software with the logitec mouse because logitec software doesn't like KVM switches.

LOL, Logitech makes the best mice, period (IMHO). They certainly aren't backup mice to MS. For one, I haven't heard of any Logitech mice being recalled. Over the years, my Logitech mice never break down. They just get too dirty & get replaced.

I also recently picked up a Dual Optical to replace the 1st gen. MouseMan Optical. Although the design is more conservative, the ergonomics are actually slightly better than the blue mouse. I don't really know about accuracy, but the tracking is actually a bit worse in C-S than I was used to. But I think I need to install Logitech's driver to fix that (or fuss w/ C-S's mouse sensitivity). Right now (and previously), I just run the default OS driver. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is, although after a few rounds of C-S, I'm sorta adjusting to the difference. The blue MouseMan Optical was a great mouse, but I took the plunge on the Dual Optical.

Only if the new MX500 goes on a major sale would I care to pick up the next gen. ;)

I'm sure you can tell the difference between when you move your mouse 1/2000th of an inch and when you only move it 1/800th of an inch.... especially at that ultra sharp resolution of 1024x768.

Does mine?

Stop bashing people who have different opinions than you. Instead of dismissing them out of hand, why do you not listen with an open mind?
