If I have a cordless desktop pro and I want to replace the mouseman with a cordless optical mouse, will it work using the same receiver? There is only one receiver for the mouse and keyboard desktop right now.

Yes, it does work and I am using it right now.
I am using the cordless desktop with my wireless logitech mouse replaced with the logitech wireless optical mouse, but using the same receiver as cordless desktop.
Enjoy your cordless optical mouse :).

how does this "cordless-optical" Logitech mouse work with gaming? Really interested in going cordless, but afraid of slower performance....

Thanks

Yeah,is this Logitech Cordless Mouseman Optical good enough in games?
Is it too slow in fps?
Or is it better to go optical with a cord?
Thanks!

I went through the same thing with the optical cordless. It is the sweetest mouse I have ever seen but it isn't so flash for gaming. Especially Lans. So I have the optical mouseman which is almost as good but has a cord.

I wont be the right person to answer that gaming performance question... I have many more limiting factors on my comp for gaming to notice any difference due to the lan.
Here are some things which I have noticed...

1) The mouse itself is heavier than any I have used before. Try the mouse in bestbuy before you buy it to make sure you are ok with its weight.

2) The battery usage is significantly higher compared to the cordless ball mouse. The led inside this thing is STRONG! and projects the cool red light even on a wall 10 feet away :). If you get a good deal on AA cells - go for it and keep them in stock. AAs last about a month and a half for me... but it completely depends on your usage so dont take that as a benchmark.

3) I have it running on 1600mAh NiMH batteries right now... it acted a bit funny with it. The day I put in the batteries , it showed the battery level to be critical. I ignored the warning since I knew they were charged. I assumed it was because the voltage levels on NiMh are lower than those on alkalines. The same day evening , I noticed it had changed from "critical" to "low" (one step higher).
Next day morning it said "Battery level is good"... and has been saying that for a week now...

4) I personally would like to keep my mouse on a USB interface rather than the ps/2 which I have now, but I do not have a USB port free for it.

It's odd...whenever I plugged any other Logitech Optical mice (had the WheelMouse and MouseMan) the cursor movement was always VERY smooth (on USB). However, with this cordless optical mouse, it seems a bit less smooth, as if it were back on PS/2. I'm actually considering going back to my old MouseMan optical unless I can figure out the reason for the difference (hope it's not inherent; I'm not crazy about it for FPSs).

i got the Cordless Optical Mouseman a couple weeks ago as a gift... not notch stuff, but since i don't play a lot of FPS cuz I don't have the computer or the advanced skillz needed, i really can't say too much about response time... but it is sort of on the low side, 50 refreshes per sec under PS2 Rate... but the 800dpi optical sensor makes the motions smoother and it is harder to mess up the cursor with fast movements when compared to the older optical mice.
