Login process has failed to create the security options dialog

My machine does this very VERY rarely but I can't find a cure. Microsoft's site has no info and a Google search only shows a guy whose problem went away after replacing his HD. He had SMART errors on his drive and I don't.

This computer (see my tagline) runs GREAT 99.999 percent of the time. I use it for work so I'm on it 10 hours a day plus weekends and evenings most of the time. Vista Business 32-Bit

I get the error: Login process has failed to create the security options dialog after the screen hazes over with an opaque whitish tint. It will be running absolutely perfectly until that *one*more*mouise*click* so to speak, then I lose control of it and a Control-Alt-Delete does nothing. After 5 min of waiting, I have to use the reset button to restart. Then it's fine again for another week or so.

Suggestions greatly appreciated.

Uninstall all Symantec products and try again. This also happens if you use a smart card but I don't remember how I fixed that one.

Thanks but there are NO symantec products here. I banned them from my office and this particular machine has NEVER had one installed.

Look at event log for errors, this must be a driver issue or something that is delaying the login process. Or you can try uninstalling your AV software.

Symantec tools for vista usually do this, if you know better then speak up.

If that was a response to me, about 8 different products are blamed in that thread, looks like people guessing. If its to the OP, can you list out what sw you do have installed (it does sound like a handle leak by someone, just got narrow down who....)

Well, I had this problem on my office pc some months ago, they uninstalled all symantec products including AV corporate version and it worked.
