Logging into your PC via an RF Badge

Do any of you have this product or use it at work?

A buddy of mine was telling me about a badge that you can wear that, when coming close to your PC, trasmits a signal via RF that you are close and logs you into your PC. I couldn't find any products out there that do this. I'll keep lookin, wanted to ask ATOT if they had seen anything like this.

Thanks,

Hmmm..interesting. What kind of security measures would be/could be placed on the RF device to prevent unauthorized use? Like someone replicating the RF signal maybe?

Good question, there are pretty slim pickings on the internet as far as finding a product like this is concerned as it is. Might have to look into your question when I find a bit more info. So far all i'm finding are home made devices. Pretty slick stuff, but nothing legit.

I read into it and they can't be used very far at all, maybe at most 6 inches away. So security wise it's not bad (not as good as typing in a password) but I'm sure people can find ways around this.

For RFIDtoys.com ( go figure )

Also, the passive 125KHz EM4102 type tags used for this project are not secure. Any 125KHz RFID reader that supports EM4102 can read these types of tags, possibly allowing someone to sneak up on you and get your tag ID without your knowledge. However, due to the short read range of these tags and the fact your new RFID keyboard is designed as a covert authentication device, the chances of anyone actually doing this is slim.
