Logging in as XP admin

I had a beta version of XP for a while and i really didnt like the login routine(with the cute pictures). I couldnt figure out how to login as the admin. So I got a copy of Pro(I went to Windows XP training, so yes, it's legal) and I was just wondering before I install how I can get on as the admin? Also, is there anyway to use a NT4/2k like login, you know...just a box, a user name, and a password...ahh the good old days

I believe when you do a fresh install then you will be asked to create a user name. That user name is the admin user name. Once the installation done then you can add password on user name so everytime you logon you need to insert the password like Win 2000 or NT.

I had no idea how to log in as Administrator either until someone else posted how to do it a while ago.
When you get to the normal login screen, hit control + alt + delete and then it will change to a login that looks like win2k's login. You can type in both the username and the password, unlike the normal winXP login screen where you can only pick from what is already there.

Yer the first account that you create is a member of the Admin group meaning that "it" has admin rights. An Admin account still exists.

I have managed to switch back to the 2k like ctrl-alt-del login screen in XP I think you have to take a look at the local policies to do that. Can't remember how to do that.

You can then log in as "Administrator" when you have switched back to the "old" login method.

Actually, any and all users that are created and added to XP are automatically made Administrators. This is why Steve Gibson is seriously ticked at Microsoft because of the security issues it raises.

If you have more than one users, you have to manually set them to Power User or whatever if you don't want them to have Administrator access.

during the install it will ask for the adm name and password and below it will be a number of blank boxes to add user's. What i did was enter my name with no password or user's and it automatic log's into adm without a problem and if i ever need to add user's it's easy from the cpl.
Does this answer your question, blotted install (2gigs) but faster than my w2k in the other partition.
