Yes, it's ridiculous. Although maybe they will do it RIGHT this time around. I always kind of liked the movie's interpretation of sanctuary as a myth, but that's not how it happened in the book.

I prefer the movie to the book and its sequel -- the myth was better than Nolan's grim reality. The culture also seemed more plausible as a single city than as the entire world.

Needless to say, the remake will almost certainly be poinless and stupid.
