i'm wondering if there is anyway to connect to my school's network from home. Now, they have to allow you to connect somehow over the internet since all the schools in the whole district (some 10 miles apart) all show up in the "My network places' in windows 2k. Now I have a login/pass so this isn't like against the rules, it would just be nice to be able to access my homework folder from home. The school uses a central domain server that verifies logins. Its some form of NT, not sure what versoin. I run 2k.

Talk to your school's IT department...Nobody in this forum will know the school network as well as the admins there (unless they post in this forum).

Let's hope your school's IT department is more knowledgeable and agreeable than most that I've run into.... You might want to see if they have a policy on external access or how close they are to having a formal one in place. Like I said it just depends on who's running what and how cool they are.

well, first I would like to know how it is done. Once I figure out if its even possible and how I would go about doing it (what type of info I would need to get) Then I'll talk to the IT guys. I would also like to know how to set up my home network to be accessed from school. Any idea?

without knowing how the school is setup then it can be done in hundreds of different ways.

If they want you to do it, they may already have a set of instructions written up. There might be a dialup modem pool. Or, it might be that you specify a web page, and it prompts you for a password to access those pages. Like everyone else is saying, it really isn't an answerable question on these pages.

More likely that are connected via a private network, not the internet.

Yep, probably a closed system. You could ask them to open up ftp but with all the security issues these days they probably want to keep the server off the internet as much as possible.

ooOOoo...i was also looking for the same thing. Computer at work runs NT4 and i run win2k...and i need to access my files on the weekends. I have file and print sharing setup between my two computers at home running win2k, and that's what i think i want to do to this NT4 box.
