Sorry typicalcat... This forum is "highly technical" not "high school homework." Both start with "high" so I can see where you may have been confused. If you post this in Off Topic, I'll be glad to help.
 
n/m... I decided to help you now. The *MOST* important thing you should have learned in Algebra is "what you do to one side, you do to the other side". For the first problem, how about dividing both sides by 2... Magic! The 2 is gone.
 
. . . and if the extra terms inside the log are giving you a problem, just replace them with a "y" and handle them after you solve the log part.
