Loctite & closing L1/L7 bridges on Duron

My new Duron 800 arrives tomorrow, and I'm planning to overclock. Read more than a few times on this board that the Loctite is a very durable solution, with better results than pencil/cheap conductive pen.

Question 1: How long do I let the Loctite dry before booting up my new machine? The 24 hours it mentions for defogger repair seem awfully long to wait... :D

Question 2: Unclocking the L7 bridges allows more voltage range to selected in the BIOS, correct? A good thing to do? Using an MSI K7TPro-2A MB.

dont need to unlock the L7's unless your board does not support voltage adjustment in the bios. i think the msi k7t supports adjustments in bios- not sure though.

Hmm, I remember reading somewhere that the L7 unlocking enables more choices for voltage adjustment.. have to check on that.

From what I've read, connecting the L7 bridges locks the voltage at 1.85, with no variability. That's just what I have read about it though. Might be wrong.

I read at a few faqs that doing the l7 bridges makes the default 1.85 volts then allowing bios options up to 2+ never tried it myself.

as for the loctite kit I found it to be a bitch. I tried a toothpick and a bent needle and couldn't do them 1 by 1. so what I did in the end is take the bent needle and dipped it into the bottle of stuff and paint the whole l1 bridge then let it dry for an hour just to be safe(this stuff dries extremely fast). then I came back and took a razor and firmly cut inbetween the lines and the line that I cut just pops out totally and didn't even bond with the chip surface, and it stayed on the contacts fine. So it was quick, and I installed it into my new msi motherboard and have been up fine so I assume it works. tried a few multipliers and assume all is well. I know my pencil job screwed up when I first did it but I probably didn't do a good job.

Yeah, I used loctite and i only waited 30 minutes then I installed the chip and no problem, what I used to apply it was a very small screwdriver for fixing eyeglasses, just dip it and apply it, it makes a very straight line, very neat and not messy. If you connect all the L7 bridges, the duron voltage won't lock at 1.85, it just raises the max to 1.85 from the bios, making it look like that you've got a tbird in there and not a duron. You would want 1.85 if you want to o/c to 1 gigahertz, also make sure that you press your HSF when you put it in since I almost burned my cpu by not doing that, there weren't any contact because of those rubber thingy, I'm using a Global Win HSF, good thing MSI mobo automatically shuts itself off if the CPU gets way too hot.

my loctite paint dried so fast that i don't have to wait it to dry

if you connect L7 bridges

the default will be set to 1.85v

my Pro2-A gives extra 0.05v to me

so i can get 1.9v to run my duron 800@1000

I usually let my mine dry about 2 seconds... seriously! This stuff dries almost instantaneously.... so make sure that you close the bottle between putting drops of it on a something else to use as a paint "resevoir" or else it all begins to evaporate out of the bottle quickly.

I've painted somewhere around 15 now and I've tried all sorts of things for the painting and finally found something that worked quickly and easily. I take a straight edge razor and slice a small piece of wood. Then I use the razor to cut an angle on the top and bottom edges of the portion that I'm going to paint with. In the end, what I end up with is a very small piece of wood that looks like a miniature chisel. I simply dip the end into the loctite and the wood absorbs some.. then I touch it to the bridge I want to close and since the "chisel" has such a tiny surface, it simply lays down a tiny straight line between the two points. A few times, I haven't even had to dip the wood in the paint again but was able to quickly close all four bridges one after another.

that pal fits into your board? I want to get a good HSF for my duron700 with the pro2a. What are other possible alternatives?
