I have one system with a 3Com Nic and all aspects of networking work fine including the transfer of smaller files. When I try and move a large 500-700 MB image file across the network to store on the server it will lock up the whole system after a few minutes and I have to reboot. I have the klatest drivers and have tried two different brand Nics. Is there a setting that needs to be tweaked? This happens whether the system is overclocked or just at default. The protocol used is TCP/IP and the systems all have a static IP. Any ideas?

I've heard of this problem before, but cannot remember the solution. One thing to try is copying from the other side....so if you're transferring from the host to the client, swap computers and try the other way. If I remember, the problem is actually between operating systems... One thing I would try as well is disabling any type of screensavers or power managment features (primarily if you have a power scheme that shuts down the hard drive after so many minutes of inactivity). Let us know if that doesn't work and we can suggest more stuff. ;)

Thanks for the input. The client is XP Pro and the Server is Windows 2000 Server. The lockups happen after about a minute or minute and a half. There is no power management settings on and no screen saver. The problem occurs regardles of which machine initiates the transfer but, it is the client that has the source files that always locks up.
